The Old Bermondsey Neighbourhood Form are a group of residents and businesses who care about the history and future of the local area. We come together around once a month to discuss current planning issues and to work on our emerging NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN which covers a range of subjects from Housing and Open Spaces to Heritage and the Local Economy.

We aim to generate planning policies with the involvement of local people that build on their existing identities, ensuring that new developments do not turn their backs on the areas’ history, architectural wealth or previous generations of residents and businesses. The Old Bermondsey Neighbourhood Form has been established to help local people achieve genuine influence over planning policy by producing a NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN highlighting the importance of the built environment in our designated area.

Our “Designated Area” includes Bermondsey Street and its surroundings (known as Old Bermondsey Village) and stretches from Tower Bridge Road in the East to Great Dover St in the West. This includes the gardens and estates of Tabard and Leathermarket alongside the Guinness Trust Buildings and the Primary School at Snowsfield.

We are looking for a motivated and talented Planning student to assist us in creating our Neighbourhood plan.

Key tasks include but not limited to:

-Research the our designated area in order to assist in producing a Neighbourhood plan.
-Produce drawings in support of our Neighbourhood plan
-Liaising with the public and councillors, attending public meetings about planning issues.

Desired profile

The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Geography, Town, Urban, Spatial or Regional Planning with results of 2:1 or higher. Or starting a post-graduate qualification on an RTPI-accredited course in 2019.

-Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Demonstrate strong motivation and passion for a career in planning
-Ability to use CAD/ other software to produce drawings.
-Possess strong team working skills
-Be planned and organised in your approach to work and meeting deadlines
-Be willing to learn and develop as opportunities present themselves
-Commercial awareness
-Research skills
-Ability to work on a number of different problems at once
