Shift: 12 Hour Night Shift from 6:00am to 6:30pm. Rotating Days

Coating Operator

The Coating Operator position requires that the operator meet all core competencies and meet all graduation requirements for one of the following Coating operator positions.

The position that the associate is placed in will be based on departmental needs and the skill set of the associate.

Coating Driam Operator – Associate is responsible for working with operator computer interfaces to operate Driam coaters to make continuous adjustments to ensure gum is the correct dimensions and weight by adjusting amount of coating in accordance with the quality guidelines. The associate operates multiple driams at the same time, which will be at different phases of the coating process at any time.

Coating Syrup Operator – Associate is responsible for working with operator computer interfaces to operate hydration and syrup mixing tanks. The Syrup operator mixes multiple syrups ensuring each batch is mixed in accordance to provided recipes for both flavor and thickness. The Syrup operator is required to make syrup at a pace that ensures multiple Driams always have enough syrup for each batch.

Coating Breaker/Grader Operator – Associate is responsible for bringing raw material (bare pellets) into the department, loading it in the breaking drums in order for the Driams to coat, grading/sorting out finished coated pellets, and preparing finished product to be shipped to our customers. These task will need to be performed following proper procedures, centerlines and quality guidelines. Basic machine set-up and SAP skills are required to perform job requirements.

Job Accountabilities

• This position is responsible for operating automated and/or manual manufacturing equipment.

• Perform scheduled quality control tests to determine if the gum is in accordance with the established specifications and document results.

• Keep accurate records of production and down times.

• General housekeeping of this process area

• Autonomous Maintenance

• Maintaining physical inventories of ingredients

• Creates transfer orders and confirms materials in SAP

• The Associate must work in a safe manner and must follow all safety procedures.

• The person in this position is responsible for properly following all QA, Food Safety and Legislative policies, systems and standards associated with gum handling.

• The Associate is cross-trained to perform all support roles (previously referred to as Forklift Driver, Gum Supply, Utility and Material Supply) in the department.

• The Associate is accountable for the department meeting all productivity, quality and safety requirements on a daily basis.

• Ensures the availability of pellet centers for coating process.

• Manages proper rotation of gum from conditioning areas. (1st in 1st out)

• Manually feeds gum into breakers to break into centers, removing bad ends, sorbitol spots, damaged pellets and ensuring all gum is removed from trays.

• Inventory amount of pellet gum daily, critical for scheduling needs.

• Monitors levels of gum centers within hoppers for coating.

• Operate, sets up and or changeover the equipment ensuring it is operating at proper speeds and gaps. (Running within centerlines)

• Has to be able to work in confined spaces for proper cleaning and inspecting equipment during changeovers.

• Monitors the preparation process to ensure the quality of the gum product.

• This position is responsible for ensuring that pellets, for recycling, are properly staged for Gum Recovery.

• This requires frequent observation of work-in-process and the completion of various paperwork such as batch formula cards and QCP (Quality Control Point) sheets.

• Lift truck operation, general housekeeping, and maintaining physical inventories of ingredients, changing dust collector bags, and maintaining cyclone.

• Trained in various other positions within the Coating department consistent with the skill level and physical demands of this position.

• SAP access and computer skills for batch management of all finished product leaving the department.

• Ensure the quality of the product throughout the department from the beginning of the process to the end.

Preferred Skills

·  Basic math skills and ability to follow written instructions are required to calculate ingredient percentages and follow Job Aids.
·  Minimum of 12 months processing or high-speed equipment and measurement tools or operation expreience in a manufacturing environment.
·  Pellet coating operating systems and HMI experience.
·  Extensive knowledge of the composition of gum and coating ingredients.
·  Thorough understanding of pellet handling
·  Ability to diagnose coating quality issues and implement required actions
·  SAP experience
·  Forklift Certification or prior Forklift Exprience-

Physical requirements

·  Occasionally pushing/pulling (carts on wheels) (400 - 1200 lbs.)
·  Frequent lifting/carrying of containers (50 lbs.)
·  Frequent handling of barrels (100 - 200 lbs.)
