If you are someone with a genuine drive to improve your life and the lives of those around you, we encourage you to explore careers with Sheraton.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

We are currently recruiting for a Scottish Apprenticeship in Hospitality trainee to join the team at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa.

The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa is located in the heart of Edinburgh's financial district and cultural quarter and is one of Scotland's leading 5 star hotels. As the largest 5 star hotel in the city with 269 bedrooms, we also have the biggest banqueting and meeting facilities with a capacity of up to 500, One Square Restaurant and the award winning One Spa™, Scotland's leading city centre spa.

Programme

The Scottish Apprenticeship in Hospitality (SAH) is open to 17-24 year olds and is underpinned by the Modern Apprenticeship Hospitality framework.

Over the three years of the apprenticeship, learn about and gain experience across a range of hotel operational areas – unlike current apprenticeships which are generally restricted to one department. Master classes and Learning Journeys are delivered throughout the programme to support the curriculum.

• Years 1 & 2: Apprentices spend time working in key operating departments – Housekeeping, Kitchen, Food & Beverage and Front of House – leading to a SVQ Level 2 in Hospitality Services

• Year 3: Apprentices work in their chosen area of specialism, leading to a SVQ Level 3 in Hospitality Services

Apprentices have a network of support through the SAH programme, including ‘department buddies', assessors, mentors and hotel sponsors.

Residential Induction

The programme begins with a two day induction that brings apprentices together for the first time with key personnel from hotel partners. The induction is delivered by HR representatives from each hotel property and training provider partners.

Master classes & Learning Journeys

A series of master classes throughout years 1 and 2 provide the apprentices with focussed sessions led by experts across a number of topics, and give the apprentices the opportunity to get together as a group. Apprentices are involved in planning the master classes, allowing them to gain hands-on event planning experience and an opportunity to grow their professional networks.

Master classes:

• Green Tourism at the Gleneagles Hotel

• Day visit to Apex Hotels Laundry in Livingston

• HIT Scotland Emerging Talent Conference

• DIAGEO Bar Academy

• WSET Level 1

• Andrew Fairlie's Secret Garden

• Patisserie with Neil Mugg

HITS awards

The Scottish Apprenticeship in Hospitality recognises the success of the apprentices by providing high value, rewarding experiences. At the end of year one, through our partnership with the Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland and Diageo Learning for Life, each apprentice will receive:

• A DIAGEO Learning for Life - HITS Craft Award.

In addition, upon successfully completing the Scottish Apprenticeship in Hospitality, each apprentice will be awarded:

• A DIAGEO Learning for Life - HITS Scholarship at a graduation ceremony

Requirements

Anyone aged between 17 and 24 years old with a passion for a career in hospitality can apply to the Scottish Apprenticeship in Hospitality.

Lack of experience is not a barrier, as long as you want to work with people, love to learn and have an attitude to succeed we want to meet you!

In return for your hard work and commitment, apprentices are paid a standard rate of pay in line with colleagues in the same department. At the outset of the programme, apprentices are required to complete a minimum of two years with their original employer. At the end of the two years they may choose to transfer to another hotel partner for their final year, on the agreement of both hotel partners involved.
