JOB SCOPE:
Study of ageing mechanisms of polymer/hybrid materials & interfaces in the ophthalmic industry.
Chemical coating ageing caused by UV radiation, temperature & moisture has been the subject of numerous internal investigations and its general mechanism is relatively complex to anticipate. As a result, the coating toughness decreases and the hygrothermal stresses increase, negatively affecting the coating adhesion & cohesion. Long-term chemical & physical stabilities are sine qua non conditions for obtaining durable organic coatings in ophthalmic industry.
By joining our research & development, in product robustness & reliability team (20 people), you will have the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking projects aimed at improving the durability of eyeglass lens interfaces & contributing to strengthen the quality & sustainability of our products from their design stage.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
In a stimulating, dynamic & collaborative work environment that promotes innovation & professional development, your main responsibilities will be:
•Conduct in depth understanding studies on the ageing mechanisms of materials used in the ophthalmic industry : polymers, nanocomposites, oxides & coatings
•Design and execute rigorous experiments to evaluate interfaces durability & identify degradation factors
•Analyze & interpret data obtained using physicochemical analysis & modeling techniques (material properties & tests/stresses)
•Propose innovative solutions to improve the strength & durability of eyeglass lens interfaces
•Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers & industry specialists to develop high quality products
•Draft detailed technical reports & present research findings to the management team
CANDIDATE'S PROFILE:
• PhD Educational Background in chemistry, or in mechanics of materials, or in physicochemical analysis
•Solid experience (3/5 years) in research and development preferably in the field of optical industry or multilayer architecture materials (such as microelectronics or packaging industry)
•In-depth knowledge of ageing mechanisms of hybrid materials and /or coating adhesion failure
•Experience in sol gel coatings (synthesis & characterization)
•Experience in buckling delamination/adhesion failure
•Experience in the use of state-of-the-art equipment such as electron microscopy, spectrometers, materials testing machines
•Ability to work independently, manage complex research projects, and meet deadlines
•Excellent written & oral communication skills with the ability to present technical results in a clear & concise manner
•Intellectual curiosity to knowhow to search beyond immediate knowledge
•Critical thinking to question oneself, practice permanent doubt
•Ability to work in uncertainty to take on with trial & error in research
•Communication skills to enhance the value of work & build a network of useful partners
•Interpersonal skills to work in teams & with other researchers
•Agile, adaptable and willing to learn profile - the need to deal with new challenges, to change the directions when needed, to implement new solutions/approaches
•Open-minded profile
•Readiness to navigate in a very dynamic work environment, be proactive
