GENERAL FUNCTION
EssilorLuxottica is seeking a dynamic Polymer Science Engineer with experience in film processing to work on innovative processes, equipment, and materials who likes to work in a transversal and collaborative manner internationally within a dynamic and innovative team.
This position will have the opportunity to work within a rich and diverse resource team collaborating with others in R&D, Engineering, Operations, vendors, etc.
Develop Sun products and their manufacturing processes for the ophthalmic lens business (color compounding, film extrusion, film-to-film lamination, thermoforming etc.)
Lead studies & projects in the field of films and laminates to deliver solutions to our internal customers. You will participate in industrial projects in line with these new technologies and will transfer the knowledge to zones engineering teams.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Conduct hands-on experimental work which includes:
· Adhesive formulation, application and curing
· Film preparation and surface treatments
· Film to film lamination experiments
· Film and laminates characterization
· Films and Laminates forming experiments
· Provide input towards materials selection based on a fundamental knowledge of their physical and chemical properties
· Provide input toward successful experimental designs
· Provide meaningful data using analytical techniques for material characterization
· Utilize and demonstrate rigorous data analysis and statistical/scientific approach in process, product and material evaluation.
· Document results using scientific methodology
· Provide support in writing lab protocols, SOPs and PCPs
· Provide support and create initial cost models for projects and investments.
· Coordinate technicians within the department in support of assigned projects.
· Participate as an active member of a development team
· Provide oral and written communications to collaborators, project team and management
· Provide inputs to the Sun products technology Roadmap
· Support and promote innovation and competitive intelligence
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an Engineering discipline, equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
· Experience in film processing techniques,
· Ability to document process, experimental results and data analysis with technical memos, and presentations
· Ability to work effectively with cross-functional working groups, skill levels and expertise in a global environment
· Demonstrate a spirit of innovation, a willingness to suggest and the ability to support the implementation of modifications of existing equipment and processes
· Proactive in learning about many technologies
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Degree preferably in Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering or Chemical Engineering with Mechanical aptitudes, equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
· Experience preferably film-to- film lamination
