Main Goal
Provide objective data and interpretation of trial and experimental hybrid results to support the advancement of Stage 0 hybrids into the commercial pipeline and to evaluate new test crosses developed by breeding. The delivery of objective data will result in providing the breeding teams with the accurate new hybrid/inbred line evaluations to advance these programs while providing marketing a “real time” assessment of our current state of the R&D pipeline. The position must also establish research trials into the commercial environment without compromising our ability to develop intellectual property. The position will work as part of a highly communicative network comprising Research, Marketing and Sales representative that will assure speed to market based upon data driven decisions
Job description
1) Responsible for all trialing aspects of a specific portfolio of crops across a given geographic area. The portfolio of crops will be prioritized on an annual basis as determined by R&D & Marketing, strategic direction and/or crop needs.
2) To collaborate with breeders within your specific portfolio of crops to establish, evaluate on station (as requested) and off-station trials (as planned). The R&D Trial Specialist is part of the crop R&D team and not separate from the R&D team.
3) To negotiate and establish off-station trials based upon a prioritized list of planting plans. The success of the R&D Trial Specialist role is highly dependent on highly collaborative and transparent partnership with our PD and TSR organization
4) To advance the experimental hybrids with the highest commercial potential from stage -1 to Stage 0 and from Stage 0 to Stage1,through the collection of valuable, timely, and accurate information all while promoting a strong AMPA crop team atmosphere designed to work at its maximum potential.
5) To retain trial information in a format that can be shared and retained to understand advancement decisions. To make formal advancement presentations as part of advancement process as requested.
Profile
Setting Direction: to set a strategic trialing direction consistent with the regional, crop strategy. The direction must be clear and ambitious. To provide direction on which experimental variety should be advanced or to provide clear direction of the breeding activities assigned to their sphere of influence.
Strategic Thinking and Analysis: Ability to think critically, conceptually and analytically to meet our regional crop goals. The incumbent will need the ability to manage multiple projects, with the end results in mind.
Technical Skills: Best in class in your ability to identify commercial potential hybrids by understanding the market needs, trait importance and to demonstrate success in comparing and deciding which hybrid should be advanced. The incumbent must be proficient in experimental design, data analysis using the appropriate statistical tool and reporting in a manner that a clear direction is set.
Interpersonal Skills – Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to work across the organization (R&D, Marketing and Sales) and levels of management.
Teamwork – The incumbent must contribute in a professional and inspirational manner that will allow the team to work beyond their capabilities and potential.
Judgment – Must exhibit sound and accurate judgment. Accountable for decisions made within the scope of responsibility, with the focus on meeting established short term and long term goals and objectives. Must have good judgment in maintaining confidentiality
