Our Team
Our Geneva office is currently looking for a Team Member for its Tax Operations Department. With over 150 employees, the Operations group in Geneva is the hub for the international Private Banking Business (Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia).The Tax Team covers a variety of jurisdictions – US, UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, France and Italy. The team’s core responsibilities are:
Tax withholding and reporting
Tax legislation monitoring
Tax audit management
Project management
Implementation of new legislations for entities we cover, such as Rubik, cost basis and FATCA
Process improvements
Onboarding of additional tax withholding and reporting entities
Training and presentations
Tax support for various other departments – Operations, Front Office etc.
The Role
Being part of the Operational Tax Team, the successful candidate will be working on tax withholding and reporting in various jurisdictions in close collaboration with his immediate colleagues and colleagues from other departments and locations. This is a unique opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of withholding and reporting tax regimes as well as financial products and operational flows and systems in a fast paced and innovative environment.
The candidate will, among others, perform the following tasks:
Ensure correctness and completeness of withholding taxation in various markets using a risk-based approach. The main areas of focus will be on the German market.
Gain knowledge on the key applications used to calculate and apply the various withholding taxes regimes as per the German law
Actively participate in German tax reporting requirements (ad hoc and regulatory),
· Performing Monthly Withholding Tax (WHT) Kapitalertragsteuer, Solidaritatszuschlag, Kirchensteuer according to the different Province (Bundeslander) rates.
· Check the correct application of the different taxes according to different kind of clients (Partially exempt, Fully Exempt, Fully taxable)
· Assist during the reporting season for the production of Muster I, II & III Steuerbescheinigung
· Perform checks on the TFA, Donation, Mitteilung über tatsächlich feigestellte, Kapitalerträge and Kirchensteuerabzugsmerkmal
Co-ordinate 360 degree liaison with all key stakeholders, such as technology, Chief Operating Office (COO) and Corporate Tax to resolve upcoming issues
Maintain and strengthen partnership with the local business teams in various locations primarily Frankfurt.
Engage in the preparation of German tax reporting for clients and to local tax authorities
Take ownership of query management across all the platforms supported
Participate in process improvement initiatives and partner with project teams, technology ,
Follow up on regulatory tax changes and internal initiatives that could affect German reporting/taxation
Provide training to team members and to our external stake holders
The position is based in Geneva and reports to the Tax Team Manager.
Educated to a degree level
Prior experience in Operational taxes and/or Legal Background is required
Good knowledge of key concepts of Operational taxes would be a strong advantage (mainly Germany, other EMEA jurisdictions, US, UK a plus)
Good problem solving skills
Strong analytical and research skills
Ability to work to tight deadlines
At ease with interaction with senior stakeholders
Fluent in English & German.
Good knowledge of excel, knowledge of access would be a plus
Must be a good team worker who thrives in a team based environment
