Duties & Responsibilities

What's the role about?

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Product Technologist to join us within the Home team. This role is on a temporary basis until December 2021.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the JL&P Home team at a time when the focus on developing market leading own brand product is so important.

You will have a real passion for product and be curious and willing to learn about the world of Quality & Technical.

The role will have elements of admin that support the Product Technologists and the wider Quality & Technical team, including the leadership team, however there will be opportunities to be hands on with the product in order to learn about materials, constructions, testing, legal requirements etc.

The successful candidate will be a real self starter with confidence to follow instructions and carry out tasks accurately and on time.

The area covers hardlines and textiles and you will be required to work across both these areas at different times.

Job Requirements

What you will be doing?

- Supporting the Product Technologist and wider technical team in managing and implementing the technical standards and requirements of John Lewis own- label products.
- Managing the administration of all relevant product testing and compliance from development sample to the final product.
- Develop knowledge of the technical capabilities of the supply base.
- Support the Product Technologist and wider team in managing the safety, legal and quality aspects of new product development.
- Keep yourself up to date with new standards, legislation and directives affecting product the area.
- Collate information on returns, online reviews and branch feedback to escalate quality issues to the Product Technologist and Junior Technologist.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

Some experience in retail or manufacturing technical/textiles role, covering:
- Product development
- Product testing
- Supplier engagement

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

What else you can bring to the role:

- Knowledge of technical and ethical auditing.
- Additional specialist qualifications or experience relevant to the buying office.
