As an Andaz Host, I am the face of the hotel and the organisation as well as being a key person who can shape the overall ‘guest experience' from beginning to end. Essentially, it is my job to ensure that memories are created for all our guests and customers not only at check-in and check-out times but also during their entire time with us. We create an environment without barriers for our guests and focus on personal interactions they will remember; this is at the centre of my role and I love building lasting relationships with all our guests.
I work within an upbeat fun team that includes other Hosts, Team Leaders and Assistant Managers; working closely with other departments is also important to our success and this helps us provide a consistent and memorable experience for the duration of the guests stay; together we learn ways of creating truly remarkable made-to-measure Andaz Experiences. My department act as the heart of the hotel, ensuring maximum efficiency and communication between all teams – Housekeeping, Front Office, Engineering and all those that make an impact on the guest's stay.
It's not just checking guests in and dealing with check outs as people might expect, I am often involved in other projects that help drive the guest experience or other aspects of the business. Here at the Andaz, and within Hyatt in general, we strive to deliver our purpose of “we care for people so they can be their best” ; with this in mind, I am empowered to create special and unique moments with our guests and colleagues, to help enhance their overall experience and creating lasting bonds.
Being an excellent communicator is essential to the role as it helps building a lasting rapport with the guests each time they visit; I get real satisfaction when guests thank me personally for making them feel so welcome or they remember me when they return to our hotel. Working in East London means we get a very diverse mix of guests so we always have to be flexible and I enjoy working in a role that delivers such variety and one that requires for me to respond accordingly; it certainly keeps me on my toes and I'm always learning new things from the different people and situations I encounter.
Hotels can often present some weird and wonderful situations. In my role, I get to be at the centre of many of these, creating an extremely dynamic and diverse role. No two days are ever the same and the team motivate each other to be the best we can be on each one of these. I love to be part of an environment that is fun, creative, open to change and new ideas, often finding inspiration through our special touches with guests.
I love working as part of the team, knowing we help build memories for guests and making their stays extra special whenever they visit.
