Job description

The information architect role is based within the Chief Data Officer function established in January 2013, as part of an HSBC wide program to improve the management of data across the organization. The Information Architect will be a subject matter expert and will work on both regional and global initiatives across Global Banking and Markets, with initial focus on supporting the design, development and implementation of a target state client data application architecture.
The data architect will work as part of a team of data stewards, business analyst, GBM business and functions, and work closely with the Enterprise Data Delivery IT organization to develop a best in class solution for data acquisition, transformation, management and distribution; ensuring alignment with GBM data policies and standards.
 
Overall Accountabilities
Work with IT and CDO community to design, develop and implement target state data application architecture
Translate business and information requirements into data models, dataflow diagrams, and use cases
Work with business community to identify and document requirements for a Data Governance tool
Represent GBM at Group Data Working Groups, working with data experts from other Global Businesses and Functions to review, approve, and implement a group data management capability to support the Group Data vision to create a cohesive strategy for data governance with unambiguous definitions, standard, and ownership.
Work with IT delivery team and data stewards as part of the Data Design Authority to ensure project solutions are in line with target state systems architecture
Oversee the delivery of data initiatives (across the Software Development Lifecycle) to ensure alignment and conformance to target state systems and architecture
Provide data consultancy and support to Stakeholders across the project lifecycle
Support business and data quality teams to perform tactical and strategic resolution facilitation of high priority data related issues
Impact on the Business
Partner with business to identify and solve data quality issues, new business initiatives and existing and new regulations
Lead and own the development and implementation of GBM data architecture, strategy, and standards
Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs, GSMs, circulars) and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to the Group’s standards of ethical behaviour.

Create a virtual business data community across the global businesses and functions
Represent GBM Americas as a member of the Data Design Authority and Group Working groups
Raise awareness of target state architecture and data design principles

Define the Operational and Organizational model for GBM Americas enterprise data
Define tools and best practice techniques and standards for data architecture and ensure they are utilized in GBM in line with group standards
Align the HSBC Data Architecture to appropriate external standards
Major Challenges
Data governance is a new concept and integration into the existing SDLC/ Program Management lifecycle will be a learning experience.
Aligning the needs of relevant stakeholders (business / function / region) and converting these disparate needs and desires to a prioritized, realistic business and implementation plan.
Logistical challenges of global coordination and implementation of target state architecture
Role Context
The jobholder will be required to engage with and get buy-in from the stakeholders and business SME’s as well as interact regularly with other GB/GF Working Group members.
The job holder will play a proactive role in the Group level data governance forums.
Management of Risk
Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.

Observation of Internal Controls
Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
To implement the Group compliance policy locally by containing compliance risk in liaison with the Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.

Desired profile

Experience / Education
Over ten years’ experience working with business data design and architecture development
Experience of developing Business focused logical data models and architecture for large financial institutions
Knowledge and experience of IT Vendors and Products working in the Data Management space
Knowledge and experience of Data Management Tools
