Role Purpose
This role is critical to the success of HSBC's vision of becoming the leading bank for transition to a net zero economy. It would sit within the Strategic Planning & Stress Testing team which is situated within the Finance function. The team within which this role sits will be responsible for executing internal and external climate-related stress tests and forecasting.
In particular, the new hire will be running the climate change scenarios, running developed models and generating insights for a senior audience based on outcomes of climate change capital and stress testing analyses. Additionally, they will be expected to input into external disclosures (e.g. TCFD) and supporting climate change related bank-wide policy build-out.
The new hire will also work in partnership with senior management across the Group and will be supporting commercial, capital and strategic decisions and regulatory interactions. While the climate stress testing and scenario analysis team will not be engaging in risk management, it will be a critical conduit to linking stress testing analysis to the Risk function

Key Accountabilities
Key activities and decision making areas

Execute climate stress testing and scenario analysis to generate strategic insights to support decision making around strategic planning, risk management, business opportunities identification etc.
Responsible for preparing insightful commentary to Risk, Business, senior management (eg: Board Presentations), regulators, investors (e.g. TCFD disclosures) and other relevant stakeholders
Manage and maintain the data requirements definition, collation and manipulation for climate change models
Where necessary, own the further development of climate change stress testing and scenario analyses capabilities (e.g. enhance existing models, support climate scenario expansion)

Major Challenges
The role holder will be working in a new, exciting content area of climate change with a fast-changing policy and capability landscape. It will require ability to work in an environment undergoing extensive transformation, and involving high regulatory expectations and investor scrutiny.

Major challenges include:
• Development of best-in-class capabilities for the bank under tight timelines
• Execution of a biennial regulatory BES stress test and the workload demands associated with it
• Operation across a complex stakeholder landscape across Finance, Risk and Business further complicated by a matrix organisation with several businesses, regions and entities
• Ability to find workarounds for data limitations, especially early on in the role as the bank works towards implementing its climate data strategy
• Staying up-to-date with regulatory requirements and leading market practices in a quickly evolving environment
• Multi-tasking across numerous deliverables

Role Context
Finance is a major function that protects the reputation of the Bank by effective accounting and control and provides timely and accurate financial information, forecasts and advice to senior stakeholders to support decision making. The function is responsible for external financial reporting to shareholders and analysts, regulatory reporting to regulators around the world, internal management reporting to senior executives, the design and implementation of Group accounting policies, the development and oversight of Finance Systems, and has involvement in Global Finance Change Programmes. The output of Group Finance is high-profile and is produced in a confidential environment to tight deadlines but requiring a high degree of accuracy and robust control in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements.

The various finance teams consist of high calibre, technically strong individuals, working within a demanding environment.

Management Risk
The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring. Also involves addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.

Observation of Internal Controls
The jobholder will also require adherence to and ability to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by following all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by following all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with the Director of climate stress testing and scenario analysis/Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture.

Desired profile



Qualifications :

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
• 4/5 years' experience in Finance or Risk. Preferred experience in stress testing or risk analytics teams
• 2/3 years' experience in management consulting firm
• Experience in Stress Testing, Liquidity management/modelling, Model development/validation and portfolio analysis and/or capital/risk analytics
• Expertise in developing and institutionalising financial analysis and MI by using tools such as Microsoft Excel
• Exhibit expert ability to drive understanding of analysis throughout business/regional operating management
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience in climate stress testing and scenario analysis, climate risk management, ESG risk management or sustainable finance preferable
