Some careers shine brighter than others.
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
Your career opportunity
The Financial Crime (FC) function is a Second line of defence (LOD) function that includes ”Risk Stewards” who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the Group’s businesses (also referred to as “the First LOD” or “FLOD”). The Financial Crime Function also operates a set of critical controls on behalf of the Group’s businesses (FLOD) by harnessing intelligence, analytics, technology, detection and investigation,. The Risk Stewards are responsible for reviewing and challenging all the activities of the First LOD to ensure that, as “Risk Owners”, they effectively manage the financial crime risk inherent in, or arising from, the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible.
What you’ll do
· Assess and articulate potential financial crime risks to HSBC from existing and emerging threats, actors, and typologies across all financial crime types (e.g., fraud, money laundering, sanctions and export control evasion, terrorist financing, proliferation financing, and tax/tariff evasion).
· Conduct in-depth research and both strategic and tactical analysis on the impact of particular threats, including via analysis of HSBC data.
· Work extensively with large and complex datasets, interpreting, transforming, and visualising data to deliver actionable insights and intelligence for the Bank from raw data.
· Deliver timely, accurate, and concise reports, briefings, and infographics to a diverse set of stakeholders, supporting the development of Bank strategy, policy, and controls.
· Proactively identify, research, and analyse emerging risks, combining external drivers (such as geopolitical shifts or the evolution of payment technologies) with proprietary insights from internal analysis and investigative casework.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
· Degree holder (or equivalent) with proven analytical and problem-solving skills, preferably with experience applying these at a strategic level in the fields of financial crime, government, policy research, consulting or finance.
· Strong ability to think critically and make assessments and recommendations from information that is potentially imperfect or incomplete.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with extensive experience drafting reports and effectively communicating complex issues in clear and succinct language for senior stakeholders.
· Knowledge of and/or background in financial crime or macroeconomic themes that impact the financial crime landscape, such as geopolitics or the evolution of payment technologies.
· A curious and agile mind, able to engage on a wide range of issues and acquire new knowledge. Superior critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills and high standards for personal achievements and development.
· Self-starter that takes ownership and drives projects, with direction from leadership. Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, delivering results without step-by-step guidance.
· Strong team player with a flair for building relationships and willingness to proactively engage with stakeholders across the organisation to gather information and influence outcomes.
· Highly desirable: experience with data analysis, including interpretation and transformation of data sets, delivering insights from raw data, and producing effective and innovative data visualisations.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and functional research and intermediate written communication ability in French.
