Job description

Role Purpose

Assist the Bank in managing Financial Crime risks through the review and investigation of system generated alerts relating to risks such as Sanctions, Money Laundering, Politically Exposed Persons and reputational risk (adverse information). Perform investigative reviews taking into account all FCC risk factors and indicators to determine if the alert/case under review requires further escalation.

Principal Accountabilities:

Impact on the Business

Name and Transaction Screening analysis
· Investigate system generated name and transaction screening potential matches.
· Undertake investigative reviews using clients' KYC file, documentation and the Bank's systems to obtain the necessary requirements to adequately conclude the review.
· Contact Relationship Managers (RM), as required, for additional information/documentation and corroborate received information provided by the RM.
· Ensure alerts are closed and documented as per Policy requirements and timelines, including the closure explanation with reference to “How & Why”.
· Identify and raise escalations relating to potential PEP (Politically Exposed Person), Sanctions or adverse information hits as per procedure.
· Prioritise time-sensitive alert reviews to ensure that transfer cut-off times and policy Service Level Agreements are strictly adhered to.
· Identify and propose to the relevant FCC Team “Good Guys” to be added to the system in order to reduce the number of false positive alerts.
· Undertake prompt review and closure of eligible alerts assessed as not posing any FCC risk to the bank as per procedure.
General
· Ensure that investigations undertaken adhere to the HSBC's Global Standards, Policies and Procedures.
· Process requests from other departments as required.
· To assist the Head of Financial Crime Compliance Operations on special projects.
Customers / Stakeholders
· Assist the AML Advisory, On-Boarding team, CLM team, FCC Sanctions and Investigation team.
· Engage with RMs or other teams/departments for additional information.
· Provide good customer service by been helpful, courteous and knowledgeable
· Establish and maintain a constructive relationship with the Front Office, Compliance & and other stakeholders involved.
· Suggest practical enhancements to existing tasks/process
Leadership & Teamwork
· Assist the FCC Operations Screening Team Manager to ensure adequate cover within the AML Transaction Monitoring team to meet the demands of core functions (investigations, Front Office engagement etc.).
· To promote a collaborative working environment, facilitating the sharing of ideas and knowledge to improve the Team's level of understanding.
· To acknowledge the needs of the Team and to assist other team members where they are dealing with a high profile, or urgent investigations.
· Contribut to a pleasant, dynamic, learning and effective working environment
· Interact effectively with others on a one-to-one and whole group basis
· Operate with flexibility and adaptation according to workload variations
Operational Effectiveness & Control
· To avoid alert backlogs.
· To remain up to date with HSBC's prevailing standards and Swiss
· regulatory changes to ensure that an analysis is focused and addresses any
· regulatory concerns.
· Attend training and information sessions when appropriate
· Apply internal procedures and educate internal clients if necessary
· Alert if material conditions are not in place to effective working
· Achieve objectives se up by the Team Manager
Major Challenges

To execute due judgment in considering and assessing negative information pertaining to any party relating to the investigation or the client and the potential impact on PBRS, should the account be retained with PBRS. Being mindful of not only potential regulatory breaches, but also damage to the reputation of the Bank.

Role Context

As a FCC Operations Screening officer it is anticipated that the nature and scope of alert handling will be predicated upon the information discovered during the analysis. In consequence, it is expected that the Officer will possess sufficient knowledge and experiential skills to decide the extent and parameters of his analysis with minimal supervision.

Management of Risk

The FCC Operations Screening Team play a central role in helping to ensure that those clients whose activities present a risk to the Bank's ability to comply with regulations are detected and escalated accordingly. To this end any analysis should be undertaken independently and objectively, without fear or favour, and with a view to promoting HSBC ideals and values.

Observation of Internal Controls

Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Role Dimensions

The specific role of FCC Operations Screening Officer contains no budgetary control element or any fiscal targets. The core driver is identification and report of suspicious or unusual transactions, non-compliant activity or increased compliance risks.

Knowledge and Qualifications:
·  Degree level – Preferrably in Law, Banking or Business Administration
·  Awareness of Swiss rules and guidelines, as well as applicable foreign laws
·  Understanding of Private Banking industry
·  Analytical, well-informed and creative approach to problem-solving ability to work independently and to the highest
·  level of accuracy and accountability
·  Computer and IT systems literate, good communication and writing skills
·  Ability to work under stress and time pressure
·  Self-assertion, good communication skills and interaction with the Front Office
·  Fluent in English (both written and spoken) is a requirement, German/French and every additional language is a plus
Experience:
·  1 to 2 years practical experience in Compliance, Banking, Audit or other Regulatory or Risk Functions related work.
General:
·  Able to work independently as well as in a team
·  Ability to work under stress and take responsibilities
·  Swiss residency mandatory
