Job description

Completes more complex and specialized analytical and reconciliation work in one or more operations functions. Handles the most difficult accounts, transactions and projects. Provides guidance and training to less experienced personnel.

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas

Customers / Stakeholders

· Work with other departments, business units and/or external customers to resolve inquiries as required.

Leadership & Teamwork

· Serves as team lead for some assigned areas as required, ensuring quality work is completed in an efficient and timely manner, provides guidance and training to less experienced personnel.
· Complete duties involving more complex and specialized analytical and reconciliation work in one or more of the following operations functions, under limited supervision: research, vault differences, Depository Services investigations. Prepare and post journal entries and prepare reconciliations, resolve reconciling items and submit reports as required.
· Use considerable judgment and initiative in completion of assigned tasks, including the handling of more difficult accounts, transactions and projects.
· Complete necessary and specialized research to resolve problems in assigned area.
· Operate computer terminal or personal computer and familiar with appropriate software, screens and functions.

· Maintain production and quality standards to meet department goals; recommend new methods to improve departmental procedures and productivity.
· Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.

This job is found in one of the following areas:

· Account Reconciliation – applies knowledge and theory of accounting function to balance monetary transactions to data captured via high-speed check processing equipment. Completes complex balancing functions; monitors activity of reconcilement system for immediate on-the-job information as needed.
· Adjustments – researches adjustments received from various internal and external sources within established time frames and/or Federal Reserve and Clearinghouse Association procedures.
· Commercial Loan Services –processes all assigned commercial loan transactions, adhering to all departmental policies and procedures. Possesses sufficient systems knowledge to handle all but most complex problems and requests, seeking assistance as necessary to fully complete the request. Works closely with others on all daily tasks, to include proper batch and general ledger reconciliation
· EFT/ACH/EBO Services – applies knowledge of ACH rules and regulations and theory of accounting function to balance monetary transactions to data captured via high-speed check processing equipment. Completes complex balancing functions; monitors activity of reconcilement system for immediate on-the-job information as needed
· Exception Accounts - pays or returns all written checks drawn against insufficient funds, stop payments or restraints.
· Retail Lockbox Services - operates automated mail extractors to complete preparatory functions for Image Remittance Processing, controlling and adhering to customer related workflow documents.
· Retirement Products Center/Rent Security – responds to and resolves telephone inquiries from customers, branches and Financial Advisors regarding requirements of individual retirement plans and processing. Completes a variety of complex clerical duties according to established procedures to support delivery of quality services
· Signature Verification – completes specialized duties relating to validating signatures on presented checks to reduce risk of financial exposure.
· Transaction Processing – assists in analysis, development, publishing and maintenance of Company communications, procedures, forms and customer disclosures associated with Company programs.
· Wholesale Lockbox Services – processes for deposit, account receivables for Company customers received from post office lock boxes according to established customer-specific plan
· Record Archive – completes weekly audits of activity against actual archive orders; audits monthly archive vendor invoices for accuracy of unit costs and activity charges; distributes and tracks the annual archive inventory report, processes orders for pick-up and retrieval of archived boxes; responds to inquiries.
· Mail Services – handles address correction processing of returned savings and checking statements for the branches in the Return Mail unit. Receives, controls and secures mail returned to the Bank that was previously routed to branch offices. Researches Bank records and external sources to obtain correct addresses.
· Special Account Services – processes legal papers, currency transaction reporting. Cash HUB reconciliation and retail International Services transaction
· Legal Paper Processing – accepts and processes highly sensitive legal documents served to HSBC Bank USA, N.A. and some subsidiaries of HSBC.
· C urrency Transaction Reporting and HUB Reconciliation – files reports following US money laundering laws for customer financial transactions, accounts and suspected criminal activity or researches and resolves Branch Customer Service Representative (Teller) cash variances.
· Retail International Services – processes foreign bank cash letters/collections, domestic collections, embassy foreign currency account transactions, Advantage Check collection items or branch foreign currency sales.

Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues

Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)

· Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators

Desired profile

Qualifications :

·  Minimum of two years proven financial and/or business analysis experience, or equivalent. Consumer financial services experience preferred.
·  Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, statistics, business management, related field or equivalent experience; MBA preferred.
·  Strong interpersonal, analytical, presentation and verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of financial analysis, modeling, systems and reporting preferred
·  Proficiency with personal computers and pertinent mainframe systems and software packages. Advanced spreadsheet and database knowledge preferred.
