Role Purpose

· The role of the Business Analyst reports directly to the Head of Operational Management, with infrequent engagement from the CAO
· The role holder will provide operational support to the CAO / HoOM across all areas of responsibility, and ensure consistency and adoption of processes, governance and reporting in the Office of the COO, Global Banking & Markets.The GBM COO office has a population of over 10,000 employees across 20+ countries and responsible for three major principles:

· Control. Through Risk Management and the Chief Control Office, the COO is responsible for monitoring and managing our operational and regulatory risk.

· Govern. The COO function owns the distribution and tracking of our financial budgets. It also centralizes Program & Project Management for GBM.

· Service. GBM COO provides the operational core of the business, alongside shared services and functions such as the Chief Data Office.

· The Office of the COO is required to provide the executive management of all elements of the GBM COO. It consists of the Operating Committee (COOs across the products and regions), but also the Chief Administrative Office, in which this role is located.
· The CAO is required to define both operational strategy, but also execute on organisational design and restructuring. Further, ad-hoc responsibilities can include managing global communications, Investor Day presentations, diversity & inclusion activities and major issue management.
· The Office of the COO, Global Banking & Markets is the core team that supports the Chief Operating Officer, Global Banking & Markets.
· Two facets of the CAO, under the COO are Operational Strategy and Organisational Design. These are led, on behalf of the CAO, by the Head of Operational Management.

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

· The role consists of supporting the development of all elements of Operational Strategy; ranging from, data strategy, through communications strategy and many other dimensions in between.
· Furthermore, the Target Operating Model and future state architecture of the GBM COO population (10,000+ employees, across 20+ countries) are to be redefined and managed by the CAO – for which this role will play a key part in analysis and construction.

Responsibilities:

· Provide direct operational support to the CAO / HoOM across all areas of responsibility, and ensure consistency and adoption of processes, governance and reporting.
· Focus on helping HoOM to develop and refine department strategy and subsequently drive execution within organisational constraints, resolving issues where possible and escalating where necessary.
· Own and manage the demand for change and supply of change resources
· Ensure that organisational people agenda recieves sufficent focus and is aligned to overal department strategy. Focus includes an engagement strategy / communications plan, recruitment, performance management, reward and talent management.

Customers / Stakeholders

· Stakeholders will be prevalent across all product COOs, regional COOs, business services and Group functions to which we face off.
· The GBM COO touches all elements of the GBM business and must remain fully connected to operational teams that drive our business forward.

Responsibilities:

· Develop close and effective working relationships with other members of the GBM Transformation leadership team to ensure common understanding of critical issues and help drive effective responses.
· Be the trusted advisor of choice for the Leadership team.
· Build and maintain a strong relationship with GBM COO's and the areas of the business that initiate change
· Own the relationship between GBM Transformation and those firms providing resources (Resource Solutions, Consultancies, Recruitment companies)
· Represent the department at relevant committees and forums. Deputise for the CAO / HoOM as required.

Leadership & Teamwork

· Collaborative teamwork and proactive, self-sufficient workload management is key. Candidates must show an excellent proficiency in identifying solutions, seeking information and decision making.
· Given the vast cross-matrix organization of the GBM COO, candidates must show exemplary emotional intelligence and influencing skills to encourage cross-team collaboration and maintain momentum in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities:

· Deputise for CAO / HoOM in departmental meetings. Be able to engage with key business stakeholders in order to represent the department (or CAO / HoOM) adequately.
· Act as an impartial and trusted advisor for the CAO / HoOM
· Work with CAO / HoOM to develop and motivate the leadership team. Attract, retain and develop the capacity, capability and talent needed for successful delivery of departmental objectives and succession planning.
· Encourage constructive global and cross-business teamwork by demonstrating collaboration and matrix management in action.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

· The Office of the COO is not a lights on function, however our input into operational strategy and day-to-day operations of the GBM COO means that our risk profile to the information that must be consolidated, distilled and analysed is very high. Significant attention to detail is a must.
· Furthermore, the time required to produce results is often short and high pressure – therefore, key analysis skills are a must; Excel proficiency, PowerPoint, VBA, design skills, problem solving and visualization experience.

Responsibilities:

· Take ownership of the portfolio of work, management and reporting process. Work closely with the CAO / HoOM to ensure that demand for change is identified, catalogued and managed within the appropriate governance forum.
· Ensure key operational scorecard metrics are met as mandated by the COO office (and aligned to strategy). This will include operational risk, financial and people metrics.
· Establish and maintain a robust and efficient control environment across the department to deliver appropriate operational, financial and project management in compliance with HSBC policy and procedures.
· Ensure conduct within the department is maintained at the appropriate level and a ‘do the right thing culture' exists.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

·  Experience in financial services, ideally in strategy or business management.
·  Degree level education in a relevant field is desirable
·  Project management exposure or qualification.
