The Financial Crime Complex Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations concerning accounts/ transactions of an anomalous nature and, where necessary, escalating such cases in accordance with the AML Investigations Procedural Standards for external reporting.

What you will do:
· Design, coordinate and execute proactive data-driven thematic reviews and investigations. These projects will include identification of anomalous activity from various parts of PBRS as well as other HSBC entities as applicable, including other business lines and functions.
· Scope and deliver complex-type reviews, with supporting work findings.
· Identify right SMEs within Investigation, Advisory, Regulatory Compliance, Tax, etc. whose contribution is required to provide a holistic FC risk assessment.
· Identify anomalous behaviour and timely reporting to Head of FCI and/or MLRO.
· Ensure suspicious activity is reported to the appropriate Authorities in a timely manner and in accordance with the applicable SLAs.
· Ensure that decisions to report to the Authorities, or not, can be justified by documenting high quality, reasoned reports supported by investigative work and recorded findings.
· Act as “spearhead” of intelligence and investigation to identify emerging FC risks using sophisticated data analytics methods.
· Confidence in providing regular updates and conclusions of findings to senior stakeholders and committees.
· Communicate to all internal business areas where appropriate relevant findings and “lessons learned” as part of Risk and Compliance Culture Briefings.
· Provide accurate and timely Management Information.
Requirements
· Complex Money Laundering investigations experience.
· Multi-jurisdictional and line- of-business banking experience.
· Advanced knowledge of data-analytics tools and techniques.
· Strong familiarity with investigative life cycle and responsibilities.
· Familiarity with transaction monitoring and associated case management systems.
· Experience of identifying activity suggesting ML, sanctions and tax evasion, bribery & corruption, fraud, terrorist financing, human trafficking and market abuse.
· Experience in undertaking investigations/analysis into customer activity with the ability to draw inferences from noted behaviour, including transactional profile, against expectation established from CDD data.
· Experience in writing concise, coherent and clear reports to identify ML/TF risk and/or SAR reporting.
· Both spoken and written communication skills with the ability to document investigative steps and conclusions effectively, in a clear, concise and professional manner.
· Consistently achieve objectives set for them and take action to improve their own performance.
· Strong organisational and senior stakeholder engagement skills.
· Collaborative working style with colleagues and broader stakeholders within a cross-border and LoB matrix.
· Prior regulatory or law enforcement investigations experience advantageous.
· ACAMS or ICA ML/FC qualifications preferred.
· Private banking experience preferred.
