Job description

The Employee Relations Manager role is based within Employee Relations, Human Resources.
 
The role of the Employee Relations Manager is to provide sound Employee Relations (ER) support to a dedicated business line, and partner with HR Generalist colleagues, Business Managers (and Legal where appropriate) to assist with the effective execution of Business strategies.
 
Your responsibilities will include:
 
Impact on the Business

Case Managers for the full spectrum of ER activity (Disciplinaries, Grievances, Capability processes etc.). This will involve providing specialist advice and guidance to HR Generalists and Business Managers. Case management work may also involve conducting independent investigations, acting as HR Representative at Hearings, reviewing or producing high quality investigation reports and outcome letters.
Coaching and developing HR Generalist colleagues and line managers on the effective resolution of ER matters. This may also include providing formal training and periodic technical updates to client groups.
Support with restructuring (redundancies, offshoring etc.)
Assignment to ER projects.
Management of MI.
Partnering with HR Generalist colleagues and business lines to assist with the effective execution of business strategies.
Customers / Stakeholders

Working with HR generalists to provide solutions to Employee Relations issues.
Work with management across supported business lines to provide sound Employee Relations support.
Provide assistance where necessary for Compliance / Risk led investigations.
Leadership & Teamwork

Support and work with colleagues in the Employee Relations team to provide a sound ER service.
Operational Effectiveness & Control

Uses an understanding of the consequences of legal, compliance and governance issues, and their associated risks, and ensures they are effectively managed in all markets and reflected in HR practices.

Desired profile

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

Experience of managing formal internal disputes (from investigation stage; to hearing stage; to outcome) and knowledge of restructuring and redundancies.
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. Excel - able to manage and report on significant quantities of data when required.
Achieved targets and met expectations whilst supporting and encouraging others to do the same.
Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered.
Have the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
A demonstrated ability to work with a high volume of ER issues
Sound knowledge of Employment Law and able to identify and quantify risks,  advising partners accordingly
Ability to understand and apply varying internal policies which cover the various businesses supported by the ER team
Evidence of providing sound guidance to relevant internal parties (HR Generalists, hearing managers etc) as well as excellent writing skills to ensure robust investigation reports, outcome letters, business cases etc.
Be resilient and able to deal with often difficult situations that arise in ER
Have a willingness to travel to various UK and Channel Island sites.
 The base location for this role is London or Apsley.
