Job description

Role Purpose

As part of the compliance tasks performed to preserve the reputation of the HSBC Group and to protect the bank from the possible financial crime exposure, Compliance Officer manages primarily periodic reviews of HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) SA clients according to AML/CTF laws and regulation requirements with a regional expertise to Middle East and North Africa clients. Such tasks might be extended to additional specific reviews.

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas

Impact on the Business

·  Periodic and thematic reviews of Private Bank clients representing high, medium and low risk;
·  Ensure relevant reporting is submitted on the Compliance matters within the scope of competence.

Customers / Stakeholders

To provide support to:

·  Front Office;
·  Other Compliance teams in relation to joint functions;
·  Compliance Management, Business Management and other Back office personnel as necessary, in particular regarding reporting.
·  FCC Ongoing Review Team as necessary on technical / application issues.

Leadership & Teamwork

·  Lead compliance projects and task forces as necessary;
·  Collaborate with other team members, share common team objectives and values;
·  Ensure business' awareness of applicable compliance risks related to business decisions to facilitate informed risk-based judgements;
·  Lead by example, demonstrating core behaviours that represent HSBC Group values and business principles, including solid teamwork, consistent focus, strong drive and determination.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

·  Ensure operational effectiveness and control standards are duly observed;
·  Provide necessary support to Audit and Operational risk, ensure effective and timely implementation of audit issues.

Major Challenges

·  Work to meet the tight deadlines in order to perform the required Compliance reviews according to regulatory requirements;
·  Timely cooperate with the Front office in order to adhere to Compliance requirements and also respect the Front office business objectives.

Role Context

·  Compliance Officer should be able to work independently and in a timely manner, take operational decisions and pursue Compliance objectives with courageous integrity. The officer's functions will be primarily managed within HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) SA, but he should be available to engage in the projects/tasks within the HSBC Private Bank globally.

Management of Risk

·  Within his role ensure that HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) SA manages adequately Compliance risk and meets Group's requirements regarding client risk
·  Handle the highly sensitive client information for Compliance reasons to adhere to the necessary operation risk control framework.

Observation of Internal Controls

·  Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Desired profile

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

·  Advanced understanding of Private Banking business with practical experience in Compliance, Audit or Operational Risk area, Legal background is an asset;
·  Project experience, organizational skills;
·  Analytical, well-informed and creative approach to problem-solving, ability to work independently and to the highest level of accuracy and accountability;
·  Ability to work under stress and time pressure;
·  Team player who can build relationships within a big team and outside the Compliance function;
·  Fluent in English and preferably in Arabic (written and spoken). German, French, Spanish or other language skills are a plus.
