We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Chief Investment Officer, Hong Kong and China.
Principal responsibilities
Report functionally to the Group Chief Investment Officer and locally to the Chief Executive Officer Insurance Hong Kong, the Chief Investment Officer provides executive leadership to; and has responsibility for; all aspects of the investment policy across HSBC Insurance businesses in Hong Kong (including HSBC and Hang Seng) and China
Ensure the Hong Kong and China insurance entities have an adequate framework for the management of their investment policy, based on HSBC Group policies and procedures, the operational and regulatory environment of each entity, and industry best practices
Make recommendations, take decisions within the risk limits and provide support to the Investment Committee of each entity for the definition of the strategic asset allocation, having regard to the Group insurance's investment strategy at global and local levels
Under the control of the Investment Committee, lead the implementation of strategic asset allocation and adapt the investment plan according to the market evolutions. To that effect, select and appoint the relevant internal and external providers of investment solutions and monitor their performance
Measure and assess, on an on-going basis, the effectiveness of the investment policy and make or propose tactical adjustments, as required; including through the implementation of hedging strategies
Monitor the adequacy between assets and liabilities in terms of risk drivers and return targets and ensure proactive management of market risk, including through the implementation of effective hedging solutions
Maintain crucially the integrity and effectiveness of the internal controls over financial reporting given that various projects will be implemented across business functions concurrently within the Group and region
Ensure all key investment risks across both countries are identified and highlighted or monitored at local Investment Committees. These should then be consolidated and discussed with the Group Insurance Investment Committee and the Group Chief Investment Officer to ensure all stakeholders are aware and appropriate decisions can be taken
Desired profile
Requirements
University graduate with solid industry experience and additional professional qualifications in Finance, Actuary, and Investment; Chartered Financial Analyst or Financial Risk Manager certification will be be a plus
Hands on experience and proven expertise in investment management, including managing funds for an insurance company or retirement business ideally in an asset allocation role
Broad exposure to, and expertise in a variety of asset class, including equities, fixed income, derivatives, and structured products; knowledge of the insurance sector (including applicable regulations and asset-liability management challenges) is a clear advantage
Familiarity with risk management principles like Value at Risk, tracking error, sensitivities, etc
Innovative strategic thinker with strong quantitative and analytical skills; including ability to “think outside the box” and conceive solutions to complex issues
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audience
Demonstrate courageous integrity and ability to challenge existing and new practices

Team-player with good stakeholder management skills, and the ability to build and lead an investment team
The chosen candidate for this role will be required to undergo enhanced vetting.
