Job description

Capital management pressures at HSBC have changed considerably with regulatory capital considerably higher than economic capital and expected to remain so. Significantly increased regulatory capital requirements have reduced ROE (‘return on equity'). Against this backdrop the Group is also subject to increasingly complex regulatory demands and these demands have become a key driver of business strategy. To meet these challenges a dedicated team within GTRF is tasked with the responsibility of managing this function in a proactive and productive manner.
Reporting to the Regional Head of Portfolio Management and Distribution– GTRF the Candidate will be responsible for:
Working in close conjunction with the Regional Head of PMD to achieve Risk Weighted Asset (RWA) targets and return on risk-weighted assets (RoRWA) at a portfolio and transaction level by:
· Designing and executing RWA/Capital management and improvement projects in alignment with strategic Regional and Group RWA initiatives.
· Providing technical input on GTRF products and its treatment within pricing models to Commercial Banking (CMB) and Global Banking and Markets (GBM) portfolio management teams.
· Providing training and support to GTRF product and frontline teams in the use of pricing tools (Omnia Returns Calculator) and the treatment of RWA/Capital within risk models
· Working with internal stakeholders from CMB, GBM, Global Risk Analytics and Regulatory reporting teams at Group, Regional and country level on a range of regulatory capital issues impacting GTRF
· Coordinating the rollout of RWA/Capital management projects at Group, Regional and local levels to ensure RWA/Capital benefits are reported accurately in external reporting systems.
· Implementing granular reporting of management information (MI) of RWA/ Returns at product, site, and regional level
· Providing technical and project support in the roll out of models focused on Trade products. Will involve working closely with Group risk analytics teams and the regulatory reporting teams
Providing support on thought leadership and regulatory issues to the GTRF business by:
· Providing analysis, research and information to the Head of Portfolio Management and Risk Distribution on a range of regulatory and technical issues impacting GTRF and the banking industry
· The Senior Manager Capital Management is a critical function in delivering the GTRF returns and RWA targets communicated externally by the Group. As the role encompasses dealing with all parts of the GTRF business and stakeholders, the role holder is expected to interact and collaborate with various business initiatives in order to assist GTRF management in the consistent delivery of business imperatives, working closely with Global GTRF Product leads, Reporting teams, and other relevant stakeholders.
Impact on the Business
· Develop and execute RWA/ Capital management projects to deliver targeted improvements in RWA and Capital management.
· Project management and execution of all Trade related risk models to deliver accurate RWA numbers. Focus on all Trade Products
· Engage stakeholders and coordinate the roll out of loss-given-default (LGD) and exposure-at-default (EAD) models for Trade at a Product level
· Oversee and monitor the business as usual (BAU) component of RWA management which encompasses: Maintenance of standard Group Product Codes, Data clean up and the development of a diagnostic tool, Quarterly Trackers and reporting
· Ensure pricing tools calculate trade returns accurately, provide training for frontline staff and end users of these tools
· Develop, collate and report required Returns /RWA, MI through a
· Dashboard.
· Support the drafting of technical and regulatory guidance notes on Trade for the industry and the Bank
· Provide training and technical guidance to frontline staff on RWA and Capital management
· Engage with HBUS Finance and Capital Management teams on reporting and CCAR Process
Customers / Stakeholders
· Manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, developing and maintaining strong working relationship with:
· Internal - GTRF Management, Global Businesses: CMB and GBM, Global Functions: GRA and GRIAP
· External - Industry Bodies (ICC, BAFT and IIF)
· Negotiation and consensus building with various regional and global stakeholders to ensure delivery of strategic imperatives
· Proactively manage GTRF business partners and services providers, and act as interface with GRA/GRIAP and external stakeholders
Leadership & Teamwork
· Drive special projects with other functions in the bank
· Manage often complex change initiatives across functions & geographies in pursuit of RWA/Capital management goals and in line with strategy
· Share knowledge, experience and best practices within and outside and promote a collective culture to spread experience & best practice
· Promote and support training initiatives to enhance the skills of GTRF personnel

Operational Effectiveness & Control
· Maintain and observe all HSBC control standards and implement and observe the Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators

· Contribute to the overall corporate governance structure, including policy and decision-making, as a member of various Committees
· Proactively develop and execute risk mitigation measures to protect the Bank and its customers from all regulatory, compliance and service issues
Major Challenges
· Increasingly regulated and complex global environment for the banking industry with often little consistency between laws and regulations in different jurisdictions and regulators taking a far more aggressive approach. The jobholder is required to have a broad and deep understanding of businesses, regulatory and industry issues, as well as the competitive landscape. The incumbent will be required to stay abreast of the rapidly changing regulatory environment and more stringent regulatory interface
· Operating within a complex matrix management environment
· Work under extremely tight deadlines
· Coordination of virtual teams across multiple customer groups (CMB & GB&M, GRA, GRIAP) [and in multiple countries] to deliver strategic objectives facilitating business growth
· The rapidly changing economic environment, regulatory environment and client requirements will continue to present a major challenge
· Ensuring clarity of strategy and messaging across multiple geographies and differing complex economic and political environments
· On-going development of tools and infrastructure / platform, where limited MI is available at the moment, to ensure returns and RWAs are reported accurately and in a timely manner
· Implementing Global Standards capability where it has not existed in the past
· At times, lead without authority and collaborate with multi stakeholders and deliver results. The role holder must be able to influence senior management and articulate clear business reasons for change initiatives
Role Context
· HSBC is the world's leading trade bank. GTRF products are increasingly becoming a key element of GBM and CMB in their strategy for supporting capital efficient, international business and it is vital to have coordination across functions to facilitate product, proposition and client management efforts.
· Client requirements are changing quickly which in turn is providing opportunity for new entrants and competitor banks which have invested in new technology, resulting in a rapid transformation of the traditional trade services environment and market-place.
· Internally within HSBC, GTRF businesses operate within a complex matrix management environment and must manage, balance priorities and delivery to the differing requirements of key stakeholders (including CMB, GBM, Area management, Risk and other support teams.)
· While GTRF has a core infrastructure, base and trade expertise, delivery of growth ambition requires a fundamental repositioning of the trade business from an operations focused and decentralized franchise to revenue focused global product and solution franchise. Client demand is increasingly focused on the provision of regional/global, broad ranged integrated GTRF management solutions which must recognize trade, local/regional tax and legal issues as well as banking practices, regulatory considerations and the Bank's own evolving product/service capabilities. This will require a business management team to manage the delivery the same.
· This role will assist the Global Head of Capital Management GTRF in delivering the strategic imperatives and in managing the day to day running of the business as it grows rapidly in the future

· Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.

· The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
· The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
· The role holder will implement the Group Compliance policy locally and adhere to all relevant processes / procedures in respect of new business initiatives. S/he will need to effectively understand and manage key operational risks, adhere to legal & regulatory guidance and all applicable HSBC standards and address any external/internal and regulatory issues in a timely and effective manner
· This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.
Desired profile
Qualifications :
Essential:
· Broad commercial banking and relationship management experience including an in-depth knowledge of the Trade & RF business on a global basis.
· Exposure to GTRF and other commercial/global banking products
· Technical skills in Capital management and Product knowledge
· Strong project management skills
· Strong independent contributor, who is comfortable working in a self-directed mode, on multiple assignments, where the teams will often be distributed across the globe and culturally diverse
· Strong written and oral communication skills

· Typical qualifications would include an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in Business Administration, Finance or a related field
