Job description
The AML Investigation Quality Assurance role is based within Legal & Compliance.
The role of AML Investigation (AMLi) Quality Assurance (QA) is to:
· contribute to the effective and compliant Regional implementation and sustainable day to day execution of the AMLi QA Process as set out in AMLi's QA procedures
· identify and communicate to the UK QA manager, recurring, thematic issues for their incorporation into the relevant communications, training and policy
· contribute to the production of relevant, accurate and timely Regional Management Information to allow stakeholders to make informed decisions
· support the Regional Head of QA with responding to Regional internal audit, Compliance Monitoring and testing and external review findings relevant to AMLi quality. Respond to enquiries from external sources, i.e. The Monitor, Regulators and external audit on behalf of Regional AML Investigations
· perform Regional industry peer benchmarking and oversight of published regulatory and law enforcement guidance to assist the Regional Head of QA with ensuring that AMLi quality standards align effectively with current day standards
· work with colleagues in Regional FCC Operations, Financial Crime Investigations (FCI) to ensure that their investigations align with AMLi QA and thus provide end-to-end quality assessment coverage of HSBC's framework to investigate and report suspicions of Money laundering (ML) and Terrorist Financing (TF)
Your responsibilities will include:
· producing a high quality case file including a comprehensive narrative and recommendation as to whether or not a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) requires onward disclosure to the relevant authorities in accordance with procedural standards
· delivering fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets

· adhering to HSBC policy, procedures and control requirements applicable to day-to-day working, exceptional and project activities, and raise any concerns about actual or potential issues promptly, in line with reporting and escalation procedures
· continuously monitoring, gathering information from relevant sources to assess potential impacts and identify risks, necessary changes and business opportunities
· applying AML policies, procedures, practices and standards to their allocated tasks, taking responsibility for their own actions, to ensure the achievement of high levels of quality, effective risk management and regulatory compliance
· being responsible for performing Quality Assurance reviews of Level 3 Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Terrorist financing (TF) investigations
· being responsible for determining whether Level 3 cases are conducted to an appropriate standard and in line with Global Policy and Procedures
· being responsible for identifying if cases / investigations have been appropriately escalated to Financial Crime Investigations (FCI), Global internal investigations Group (GIIG), Anti-Bribery & Corruption (AB&C), Global Sanctions and Investigations Exchange
· undertaking Quality Assurance of the repeat SAR process
· ensuring cases which require IRIS entries are logged in IRIS
· supporting and participating in key initiatives from the country/region
· working with colleagues in Regional FCC Operations, Financial Crime Investigations (FCI) to ensure that their investigations align with AMLi QA and thus provide end-to-end quality assessment coverage of HSBC's framework to investigate and report suspicions of Money laundering (ML) and Terrorist Financing (TF)
· contributing to the effective and compliant Regional implementation and sustainable day to day execution of the AMLi QA Process as set out in AMLi's QA procedures
Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
· relevant product knowledge including knowledge of AML and Quality assurance
· experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Retail Banking / Investment Banking / Police
· experience working in relevant market/context
· role relevant qualifications, i.e. Certified Anti- Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) or International Compliance Association (ICA)
· past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. AML (minimum of 6 months)
· past working experience on relevant systems, i.e. SARS
· experience of using relevant software packages
The base location for this role is Edinburgh.
