Role Summary/Purpose

The VMware Virtualization Engineer will be responsible for the virtualization tech stack and includes engineering solutions for all GE all businesses globally. This person will also be responsible for developing non-traditional virtualization solutions driving down traditional use and costs.

Essential Responsibilities

Evaluate open source virtualization technologies and third party hosted solutions
• Develop a playbook that include metrics that drives positive trends, roadmaps and overall strategy for the technology stack
• Investigates and develop new best practices and methodologies
• Engineer new virtualization solutions based on internal requirements
• Partner with the GE CTO organization to design for security, reliability and operational excellence across the technologies suite of tools and resources
• Partner with the internal cloud organization to automate the deployment of virtualization solutions
• Disposition operational and build task to the support organization
• Participate with writing initial compliance and process documentation
• Deliver fast, cheap and the right availability to meet customs needs
• Lead long range road mapping and assure consistency with business objectives for resiliency, disaster tolerance, and regulatory compliance.
• Work well within a team environment and communicating to a diverse set of colleagues
• Maintain leading edge technical skills in a rapidly changing environment
• Complete all planned quality, compliance, and security training within the defined deadlines

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

• VMware Certified Professional or equivalent working experience required
• Experience with the following VMware products: VMware ESX(i), PowerCLI, NSX, vSAN, Site Recovery Manager, vRealize Operations
• 2 years' experience with Windows 2008 or greater
• Experience with provisioning both physical and virtual x86 hardware.
• Networking: knowledge of Ethernet, IP, DNS and NIS associated daemons. Knowledge of network architectures including hubs, repeaters, bridges, routers, and switches.
• Familiarity/Comfort with Unix and/or Linux operating systems
• Demonstrate the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems
• Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts
• Demonstrate awareness about competitors and industry trends
• Has the ability to analyze impact of technology choices
• Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
