Role Summary/Purpose
The Tender Manager is responsible to prepare technical proposals and bids for IST's opportunities managing all aspects of the technical bid preparation and related to the tender technical documentation.
Essential Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Tendering or,if available in the location, to the Group Leader Tendering , the Tender Manager is responsible to prepare technical proposals and bids for IST's opportunities managing all aspects of the technical bid preparation and related to the tender technical documentation.
General tasks related to the offer preparation include selection of best product in accordance of sales strategy and customer requirements, deep understanding of technical requirements from customer and appropriate commenting, fine tuning toward the best technical performance achievement, correct and sound cost calculation (including sub-suppliers confirmation, as required), detailed and technically complete preparation of offer documentation and assurance that the review by others of the prepare offer package is achievable and performed.
On case by case the Tender Manager is required to support the further development of the tendering tools, tendering standard documentation and to support the sales community during the pre-acquisition phase of opportunities.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Preparation of effective technical proposals and bids for IST's opportunities, in support of the IST Sales and Tendering functions from pre-acquisition phase until successful handover of project to execution functions.
Key responsibility is to manage all aspects of the technical bid preparation and documentation, including:
- Technical support to the IST capture team in the identification of customer requirements, covering the
complete global market.
- Determination and fine tuning of the appropriate IST offerings/solutions.
- Apply broad technical and commercial principles (eg Balance of Plant (BoP), costing etc.) to the preparation of technical bids and proposals and to the sales price calculation.
- Act independently (but equally able to act as a team player) in the preparation of technical bids and proposals covering the whole tendering process in order to generate a competitive IST solution, including thermodynamics and performance calculations, mechanical design, layout, BoP, cost makeup and final tender preparation (technically sound and adequately formulated and presented).
- Liaison with internal and external partners in the global engineering and manufacturing supply chain.
- Ensuring compliance with internal processes in order to manage and mitigate risk and secure supply for tendered projects (technical responsibility for entries in Power Sales, Risk Log File, etc).
- Technical tender bid presentations to customers (including explanation and deviation of the Customer's requirement).
- Technical support during the contract negotiation phase.
- Project handover to order engineering functions and project management on contract award.
Desired profile
Qualifications/Requirements
- Engineering (preferably steam turbine based) knowledge and experience to at least degree level backed up with proven technical and commercial skills.
- Fluency in English language.
- Significant technical product knowledge, particularly of industrial steam or gas turbines and power plants is essential.
- A good appreciation of thermodynamic cycles, turbine component design and performance analysis.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a technical sales or a design environment.
Desired Characteristics

- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Other languages then English are an advantage.
- Strong team player.
- Experience of customer facing meetings and negotiations.
- Competent with standard IT packages for word processing, spreadsheets and preparation of presentation materials is required.
- Able to travel globally as appropriate.
- Positive attitude with high levels of self-motivation and able to make appropriate informed decisions.
- Strong commercial awareness and knowledge of risk management would be advantageous.
