Role Summary/Purpose
Responsible for resolving uncommon incidents, fulfilling unique requests, and scripting solutions to proactively prevent incidents and reduce requests across servers, storage, and backup devices. Contributes to the team and works with direction from Senior Team Members or management; increasing capability to work independently.
Essential Responsibilities
• Possesses deep expertise in complex production operations involving multiple applications, systems, processes and teams
• Quickly respond and triage production service issues and coordinate with the appropriate team for resolution, including RCA
• Maintain and support cloud-based virtualization environments (AWS, GCS, Azure) as well as on-prem virtualization solutions (VMWare) and physical hardware
• Build, maintain, and leverage monitoring systems to resolve problems and/or escalate to senior team members to ensure service levels are exceeded
• Manage the full server lifecycle (build, maintain/patch and decommission) for both Windows and Linux servers
• Assists with development of automated solutions and the programmatic deployment/management of tools used in production environment
• Maintain and support business continuity and disaster recovery plans for compute and storage systems. This includes backup/restore system management (Veeam)
• Maintain and support security/anti-virus applications on server/compute systems
• Enforce and ensure compliance with IT policies and procedures
• Understand and contribute to the creation of system support documents, operational run books, and build recipes for operational activities
• Research products, services, protocols, and standards to support a low-touch server environment
• Utilize an ITSM (ServiceNow, etc.) to track incidents, requests, server assets, and related services
• Recommend, schedule, and perform server/system improvements, upgrades, and repairs
• Assist others as needed in solving IT issues spanning multiple teams
• Mentor/train other staff (including offshore personnel) on solving common systems-related problems
• Flexibility to perform system upgrades/updates during non-business hours to minimize business outages
• Serve as subject matter expert and project team member for project work.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent level of education and experience, is strongly preferred
• 4+ years related experience in information technology systems administration
Desired Characteristics
Technical Requirements:
• Extensive experience with Windows Server OS and Linux (CentOS, RHEL) software/support
• Extensive experience with virtualization (VMWare, Nutanix) software
• Experience with admin/managing cloud-based servers and storage (AWS, GCS, etc.)
• Experience with containers/tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with patching processes and server backup/restore
• Experience with storage (SAN) equipment
• Familiarity with scripting languages (Powershell, Python, Ruby on Rails, etc.)
• Familiarity with automation/DevOps tools (Chef, Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, etc.)
• Familiarity with infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, etc.) and network/server security tools/processes
• Troubleshooting experience and ability to fulfill L2+ support
