Role Summary/Purpose

The Sub-Section Manager demonstrates leadership and accountability in projects, programs and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals and contribute to overall business strategy.
Essential Responsibilities

This role is to provide highly technical leadership and administrative management for assigned personnel. Provide engineering support to all assigned customers, employing the latest technology while minimizing costs.

• Coach and mentor team members on assigned technical projects and coordinate efforts with TTC and global technical experts
Understand business priorities and right-size the work that needs to be executed to reach the expected business outcome.
• Lead and conduct major technical projects
• Track and report progress on team projects and deliverables to leadership team and ask for help in a timely manner if needed
• Coordinate and participate in Design or Technical Reviews with funding Customers, leadership and Controlled Title Holders at all levels.
• Assure team understands and follows GE Aviation Engineering policies
• Elevate significant technical issues or risks to TTC or GE leadership without hesitation
• Identify and propose additional project opportunities to funding Customers
• Develop and maintain a productive work environment, promoting teamwork and cross-functional efforts to achieve and maintain engineering excellence.
• Plan and execute on long term technical maturation of the discipline in the organization
• Establish and monitor programs, plans and budgets to assure business needs and customer satisfaction (program and operational requirements)
• Apply experienced technical judgment to drive resolution to complex problems with
significant impact. Recommend approach to meet the technical and program requirements.
• Communicate technical, organizational, resource and personnel issues internally
and externally as appropriate
• Ensure projects are executed by using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
• Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
• Lead or participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives
• Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
• Promote professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching and counseling.
• Conduct performance appraisals and participate in salary planning
• Approve related engineering documents as authorized sub section manager
Qualifications/Requirements

• BS or MS degree in Mechanical or aerospace Engineering
• Working knowledge of aircraft and aero derivative engines
• Solid gas turbine Thermal and secondary flow design experience
• Demonstrated leadership skills of flexibility and open-minded attitude with capacity to learn quickly
• Ability to effectively lead and mentor the team while increasing his/her own technical capability. Continuously develops self and passionate about developing others.
• Has a good understanding of “Team Leadership” and ready to act as a role model by demonstrating high standard of work ethics and dedication
• Ability to manage ambiguity, conflict and uncertainty within the team
• Excellent communication skills with both external and internal customers
• Ability to connect effectively with a broad group of stakeholders
• Ability to challenge bureaucracy and non-value-add work, drive speed and simplicity
• Ability to welcome opposing thoughts and ideas
• Ability to drive engagement and commitment within the team
• At least 3 years of leadership experience with 1 year GE Aviation experience
• Sound program decision making and broad product/process understanding
• Highly independent management of GE processes within uncertain conditions
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategic planning and execution
• Effective presenter to business/technical leadership
• Ability to connect effectively with a broad group of stakeholders
