Role Summary/Purpose
The Software Engineer will support the implementation and configuration of Edge controllers and software at customer sites as part of the Edge Professional Services team. This role is on the leading edge of the industrial internet of things movement and the primary function is to work with internal agile software teams to design, develop, implement and configure industrial apps.
Essential Responsibilities
As the Software Engineer, you will:
· Join the GE's Automation & Controls Professional Services team and use your software skills to develop, implement and configure software applications for our Edge EcoSystem. Examples could be porting customer Apps from legacy to the Predix environment, developing adapters for connecting customer equipment to the Predix EcoSystem, adding customer specific features & functionality to the Edge App Product Portfolio.
· Work in small, self-motivated teams to translate customer needs into Edge App products and infrastructure
· Travel to customer sites to implement and configure software applications on the Field Agent device
· Work with the connectivity teams in A&C services to ensure customer satisfaction
· Provide training to customers to enable them to write Apps or visualize data
· 50% travel to customer sites to implement and configure software applications on the Field Agent device

Desired Characteristics
· Master's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
· Experience with web markup, including HTML5 and CSS
· Experience with Javascript
· Experience with Java, Bash and Python
· Experience in system administration with Linux and Windows
· Experience with Embedded Linux & device drivers
· Experience with Virtualization, e.g. VMWare, Hyper-V, etc.
· Knowledge of Ethernet network communication protocols
· Knowledge of application Security best practices
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to deliver on innovative ideas for products and processes
· Demonstrated experience working on teams that use the Agile Scrum development methods
· Bias for action with a positive mental mindset

Basic Qualifications
· Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
· Minimum of 1 year of experience with developing software with high-level software languages or with web development
· Minimum of 1 year of experience developing software in Linux or Windows environment
· Willingness and ability to travel 50% of the time to customer sites.
