Job Description Summary

The Generator Controls Field Service Engineer (FSE) will participate as a Regional Service Team member responsible for providing the best service for our customers across Latam region. The Generator Controls FSE will be responsible for technical direction and safe site leadership of onsite installation, commissioning, testing and startup activities within the technical discipline in charge to perform control migration and upgrades services activities on customers' site/property.

The Generator Controls Field Service Engineer develops practical and innovative ways to identify and meet goals.  In this role you are responsible for work which is defined in scope, utilize your understanding and experience to execute business objectives, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support execution of retrofit projects including installation, power up, and commissioning of one or more of the following: Excitation control solutions (EX2100e, EX2100, EX2000 DFE), Static Starter control solutions (LS2100, LS2100e), HMI upgrades, and TIL implementation.
  • Support warranty administration and troubleshooting issues. Addresses customer service requests and leads customer issue resolution during warranty and post-warranty periods.
  • Be responsible for pre-planning, site scheduling, field engineering, commissioning, control system startup, and project handover to customers. 
  • Works closely with project managers, customers, and supplier representatives to ensure financial performance, quality project installation, timeliness, and customer satisfaction. 
  • Respond to customer call out services requests.
  • Timely completion of service time sheets, trip reports, invoicing packages, and other administrative requirements including pre-mobilization and de-mobilization meetings and procedures.
  • Interface with GE Power Services, GE Industrial, and other GE Businesses.
  • Significant travel and over-time will be expected up to 50%.
  • Other duties as required. Secondary duties may possibly include participation in FAT (factory acceptance test); participation in development of overall controls strategy for projects; design of hardware and software configuration packages according to project requirements; design of operator interface graphics and network topologies; release of system design to manufacturing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial automation or Electronic Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Must have experience in one or more of the following: Excitation control solutions (EX2100e, EX2100, EX2000 DFE), Static Starter control solutions (LS2100, LS2100e), HMI upgrades, Protection relays (G60 \T60) configuration and testing.
  • Proven experience of field engineering experience in power generation, industrial plant automation, DCS (distributed control system)
  • MarkVie/HMI/Networking Control Solutions product experience (combined or individual proven experience). Able to perform the commissioning and start-up of machine with these configurations.
  • Previous industrial field service experience.
  • Controls experience to equipment that functions as a prime mover.
  • Electronics and/or mechanical trouble shooting skills.
  • Computer skills, familiarity with MS Office, TCP/IP configuration.
  • Ability to learn other software tool applications to support HMI and application changes (Cimplicity, Toolbox, etc.).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Travel 70%, as required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and passport.

Desired Characteristics

  • Prior mechanical / maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision requirement; able to work independently; ability to prioritize, organize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to set and meet aggressive goals and targets.
  • Ability to troubleshoot control and instrumentation systems at all levels, from field devices to control system, and networking. 
  • Must be able to generate immediate credibility with customers, suppliers, GE project management / engineering communities.
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, geographically dispersed team environment is required.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills Spanish and English Spoken/Written, Portuguese (Native)
  • Customer-focused skills, demonstrated by experience in field services, customer services or project management, are essential.
