In Advanced Systems Design we develop Mechanical Transmissions (i.e., accessory drivetrain & power gearboxes) for Next Generation Narrow-Body aircraft. We are looking for a Systems Engineer to play a key role in the conceptual design, development, integration, and testing high-performance gearbox systems.
In this role, you will help shape the architecture of future propulsion systems and contribute directly to improving efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in aviation. The Systems Engineer uses experience and expertise to solve complex problems and deliver on technical and program objectives, influencing both short-term milestones and long-term product strategy.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

Concept & Architecture

· 
Conduct concept design and technical feasibility studies in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary design team

· 
Define the gearbox architecture and design intent in line with product specifications and system-level requirements

System Definition & Integration

· 
Lead and coordinate design activities, providing system-level inputs for component definition (mechanical/functional interfaces, stack-ups, assembly checks)

· 
Ensure proper integration of the gearbox module within the engine/aircraft system, coordinating with GE Aerospace global teams, partners, and internal stakeholders

· 
Work closely with the Gearbox Module Owner to ensure program priorities are clearly flowed down and aligned across supporting organizations

Validation & Verification (V&V) / Technology Maturation

· 
Define the Validation and Verification strategy for the gearbox module, including planning of analysis and test

· 
Flow down system requirements to the rig design and test teams and lead the preparation of test design reviews

· 
Support and track technology maturation activities, ensuring risks, mitigations, and learnings are captured and communicated

Configuration & Documentation

· 
Define and maintain the Bill of Material (BOM) and manage configurations using company tools and processes

· 
Ensure that system documentation, requirements, and design records are complete, traceable, and compliant with internal and customer standards

Qualifications/Requirements

· 
Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering (or related discipline) from an accredited university or college

· 
Experience in mechanical design, preferably in rotating machinery, drivetrain, or gearbox-related applications

· 
Knowledge of CAD design tools, preferably NX and Teamcenter (or equivalent PLM systems)

· 
Fluency in English and Italian (written and spoken)

· 
Eligibility to work in the country of employment; work visa in accordance with local regulations, where applicable

Desired Characteristics

· 
Knowledge of gearbox technical requirements, design solutions, and relevant technologies (e.g., gears, bearings, lubrication, housings).

· 
Experience defining and executing Validation & Verification strategies and supporting test campaigns (rig or component level).

· 
Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) or similar product development processes.

· 
Basic knowledge of FEM/FEA tools and structural analysis.

· 
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to make sound engineering judgments.

· 
Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical topics clearly to diverse audiences.

· 
Structured, diligent, and clear-thinking approach to engineering tasks and documentation.

· 
Proven teamwork, collaboration, and inclusiveness, with good interpersonal and leadership skills in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural environment
