Role Summary/Purpose

The UX design intern shall undertake an independent design project related to an industrial design, a software user interface design or a design research related to a medical device, a life sciences product or a Healthcare IT product. He / she will work as an extended member of the GE Healthcare global design team in India during the course of the internship project and will be based at Bangalore.

Essential Responsibilities

• He / She will be responsible to deliver on the assigned design project against the defined design criteria such as aesthetics, ergonomics, user experience, detail design and mock-up / prototype. Besides the project work he/she will also be responsible for completing all necessary internal trainings including mandatory quality & EHS trainings on time, planning and tracking schedules and budgets related to the project work. The UX design intern will proactively seek guidance from the internal experts at GE Healthcare and any academic mentor from his / her institution to inform his/her design process. He / she will also observe all necessary GE policies related to the intellectual property and confidentiality of GE's or other third party's proprietary information where ever applicable while sharing or publishing his / her thesis work in fulfillment of the academic requirements.

During the course of the internship project the UX design Intern will carry out all necessary tasks related to the assigned design project including ( but not limited to )

• Acquire basic product knowledge related to the present GE and competitive products through desk-research, live product demonstrations etc.
• Study GEHC's design language and principles and gain essential understanding of the forms, colours, materials & finishes governed by the design language.
• Conducting user research / observational studies preferably in real use environments and develop insights for meaningful design interventions.
• Interact with real users, product management and subject matter experts, develop and document the user personas & use case scenarios for the assigned product / project.
• Develop alternative design concepts, create essential deliverables such as sketches, wireframes, mock-up models etc for effective presentation of the design concepts
• Refine the selected design concept, create detail designs, artworks, 2D / 3D drawings / Models etc. good enough to build refined models / prototypes for evaluation
• Develop low / high fidelity Mock-up models / prototype as may be appropriate and perform concept review with target users / customers

Desired profile

Qualifications/Requirements

1. • Persuing a Diploma, Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design or User Interface / User Experience Design at a reputed design schools in India or elsewhere or has completed his / her graduation (Diploma, Bachelor's or Master's degree in related fields) no ealier than 6 months.

• Strong creativity and problem solving skills and proficiency in hands on design skills including sketching / drawing , 2D / 3D visual design tools such as Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator, CorelDraw, Rhino, Solidworks, ProEngineer, KeyShot, V-ray etc.

• Working knowledge or hands-on experience with audio / video recording, editing etc & animation is desirable.

• Strong written and verbal communication, self-motivation to work independently, team working & collaboration skills.

• Willing to travel domestically up to 25% of the time, including overnight stays, Willing to enter medical facilities and observe medical procedures where scenes of trauma or surgical interventions may be witnessed
