Role Summary/Purpose
The HSE, Legal & Quality Communications Manager is a key member of the Communications team. This role reports to the Director of Employee, Culture & Enterprise Function Communications and is focused on providing 360-degree communications counsel, supporting and prioritizing the functions’ internal and external communication needs. driving a cohesive enterprise wide approach to how we communicate and operationalize BHGE’s commitment to its non-negotiable – HSE, Quality and Integrity.
Essential Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will partner with the HSE & Legal functions, including the respective functional integration teams, the Compliance and HSE Governance, Process and Tools teams and Product Company/Region communicators to help employees internalize and live every day BHGE’s HSE fundamentals and culture of a Perfect HSE Day and integrity. He/she will also work closely with the Quality and Communications Leaders within the Product Companies to develop and embed a consistent enterprise messaging framework on Quality that can be tailored and owned by each of the respective businesses.
The right candidate will drive a strong strategic communications plan that is aligned with key business and function priorities, and enables BHGE to operationalize the non-negotiable (HSE, Integrity and Quality) connected to the BHGE culture pillars in the everyday employee and customer experience, while supporting BHGE’s overarching purpose - inventing smarter ways to bring energy to the world.
He/she will be responsible for function-to-function communications focused on HSE and Legal priorities and function-to-enterprise communication that clearly positions HSE, Legal and Quality within the wider BHGE business and is used as a differentiator to position the company externally. The ideal candidate will also partner with the External Affairs and Commercial teams to identify opportunities to position key spokespeople in support of the overall BHGE thought leadership and customer outreach strategy, helping to position the company as a leader in HSE, Compliance and Quality, promoting best practices in the oil and gas industry.
The role operates in a tight network with communications colleagues around the world working in strong partnership with the Director of Employee, Culture & Enterprise Function Communications as well as the broader community of practice. He/she should be adept at managing the expectations of multiple stakeholders in the business –a can do attitude paired with influencing and networking skills are a necessity.
In the role of Communications Specialist – HSE and Legal functions, you will:
· Partner with HSE & Legal and Quality Function leader / team on communications priorities, creates and executes plans to deliver desired outcome and aligned with the global BHGE Communications plan
· Work closely with the External Affairs team to ensure that the overall BHGE thought leadership plan feeds back into the HSE and Legal communications plan
· Create materials and other communications tools for the embedding of a customer-outcomes and collaboration without boundaries focused culture within the HSE and Legal teams, as well as across the wider BHGE
· Create and manage the HSE & Legal Functions’ Communication operating rhythms and integrates them into the overall organization operating rhythms, providing clear line of sight of upcoming activities, identifying and troubleshooting overlaps or conflicts
· Analyze and measure results and makes adjustments in strategy / execution as appropriate
· Measure ROI for all activities to ensure that resources are being used efficiently and productively
· Keep colleagues in the Communication team informed of progress and development of activities, and arising issues
Qualifications/Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing or Psychology from an accredited college or university
· Minimum 10 years of experience in Communications or Marketing in an international environment including 2 years of experience in employee communications
· Minimum 1 year of experience in external affairs
Desired Characteristics
· Experience in audience outreach and activation communications tools and techniques and related developments like social media and campaign marketing
· A genuine understanding of, and interest in, modern promotional trends and practices including full use of big data and automation
· A reliable project manager, with the capability to self-direct and execute directly on time and budget.
· Copes well working on a number of different tasks, sometimes with conflicting deadlines and under pressure
· Good knowledge of the Baker Hughes, a GE company business
· Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
· Good attention to detail and accuracy
· A confident, proactive self-starter who truly enjoys the hands-on aspects of communications, in particular employee & culture communications
· Approaches communication plans with a creative and analytical mind and the ability to integrate internal with external positioning needs
· Excellent writing skills
· Proven ability to work with 3rd parties to drive success
· Understanding of measurement and evaluation
· A true team-player who is able to work with remote team members
