4 year Fixed Term Contract - EHS Support roles 

First Hydro Company is one of the UK's most dynamic electricity generators, responsible for the management and operation of the pumped storage plants at Dinorwig and Ffestiniog in the Snowdonia region of Wales. Purpose of the role

First Hydro has three EHS Support vacancies on a fixed term contract basis.  These roles will work as part of the QEHS team or be directed to specific projects to support, monitor and improve the EH&S performance, ensuring full compliance with all applicable statutory, regulatory and Company standards and targets as defined

 

Supporting the development of a positive and proactive EH&S culture to enable productive working relationships between the FHC, Project Teams, contract employees and other key stakeholders.

 

This role includes the provision of 24hr site EH&S supervision on a rota basis.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Compliance/Non Compliance

·  Ensure all site based activities and installations are progressed in line with Company Procedures, employers and contractual requirements and within applicable industry standards.
·  Monitor that contractors are working to approved RAMS, Safety documents and H&S Plans.;
·  Liaise with Contractor’s EHS representative;
·  Monitor that approved lift plans, hot work assessments etc are in place, available and adhered to at the point of work;
·  Verification of contractor training including delivery of toolbox talks;
·  Undertake EHS patrols;
·  Conduct regular EHS behavioural observations on the contractors;
·  Record, monitor and advise the Project Technical Officer, QEH&S Manager or Project Responsible Officer as appropriate of any deviation from best/agreed practise.
·  Ensure appropriate PPE is worn always.
·  Assist QEH&S Manager or if directed, Project Lead to monitor non-conformities and ensure that not compliances are recorded accurately along with being reported.

 

Policies and Procedures

·  Ensuring FHC policies and procedures are followed.
·  Promotion of Engie safe working practices.
·  Ensuring all ‘events’ are reported in the Incident management system.

 

Training/Document Management

·  Facilitate site inductions for contract staff and visitors.
·  Facilitate training in FHC Safety Rules for relevant contractor staff.
·  Support the establishment and development of a positive and proactive EHS Document Management System to enable productive working

 

Monitoring and Reporting

·  Complete daily log of incidents, issues and progress.  Raise any issues for consideration/action.
·  Attend Project meetings as required eg Pre/Post-working period handover meeting
·  Undertake behavioural safety observations, record results and provide feedback to QEHS Manager or Project Lead
·  Check that CDM Zones are enforced. Check that CDM inductions take place and that the register for entry to the CDM zone is completed.
·  Ensure all work related assessments are completed whenever appropriate and that work is carried out as per the assessment.
·  Support any accident and event investigations where required.
·  Assessing opportunities for improvements and sharing best practice across the organisation

 

  Knowledge and Skills:

·  Knowledge and experience of work at power stations
·  Knowledge and understanding of FHC working procedures is desirable
·  Able to identify incorrect working practices

Experience & Qualifications

·  Working within business processes and IT systems.
·  Successful interface with internal and external stakeholders.
·  Delivering outcomes to time and to the required standard.
·  Problem-solving.
·  Power station background.
·  IOSH Managing Safely. (Essential)
·  HNC (Desirable)
·  IEMA certificate (Desirable)
·  Behavioural Safety Observer (Desirable)
