POSITION DESCRIPTION:   The Transportation Logistics Specialist will plan, consolidate and schedule outbound customer deliveries; inbound materials and finished goods between Whitewave plants, DCs and co-manufacturers using knowledge of carrier regulations and requirements to ensure domestic and international shipments meet customer requirements, arriving safely and in a cost effective manner.   Analyze carrier performance to requirements and service expectations; provide fact based suggestions for cost and service improvements.  Collaborate across total customer supply chain team on improvement initiatives which enhance the total customer experience.

 

RESPONSIBILITES:

Transportation & Logistics Management

·  Plan and tender full truck load (FTL) single drop loads and consolidates less than truck load (LTL) orders maximizing utilization while reducing cost per lb. 
·  Arrange domestic and international freight utilizing optimal routing to assure required level of customer service is received at the lowest rates. 
·  Focus on cost effectiveness and priority customers.  Responsible for executing against annual transportation budget per region, to make least cost decisions. 
·  Key transportation liaison for all Whitewave plants and DCs.  Responsible for mitigating issues causing delays in customer delivery, inbound materials and finished goods re-supply at all Whitewave plants, suppliers and co-manufacturers.
·  Responsible for tracking carrier’s process compliance from tender to reporting delivery
·  Monitor issues outside normal business hours insuring timely deliveries to customers and mitigate additional costs. 
·  Monitoring and follow up on adherence to pick up appointments.
·  Follow up on carrier activities not accomplished at appointed time to obtain updates/current status, discuss options for meeting customer requirements with Customer Logistics team, determine balanced resolution between service and cost, execute against plan.

 

Distribution Cost Management

·  Using weekly/monthly KPI reporting identifies service improvement/ cost reduction opportunities.  Recommends and implement adjustments to processes to optimize transportation spend.
·  Provide volume forecasts to carriers to assure capacity available to meet customer demand.
·  Maintaining inbound and outbound routing guides.
·  Analyze and approve rate change requests.
·  Assessorial Management

 

Service, Productivity & Process Improvement

·  Identify, collaborate and implement continuous improvement projects to elevate service levels to customers. Identifies opportunities to innovate, improve service and/or reduce cost.  Analyzes opportunities, develops recommendations and implements process improvements that deliver results.
·  Drives cross functional collaboration with Supply Chain, Customer and Field Sales to achieve supply chain efficiencies.
·  Support Customer Service and Logistics KPI's by monitoring carrier adherence to making both pick up and drop appointments within specified time frame and customer lead times.
·  Communicates potential delays to Customer Logistics team member and revised delivery appointments. 
·  Develops and maintains process and procedure documentation. 
·  Develops and maintains training content; plans and provides training to new hires.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Education and Experience:

 

·  SAP and Lean Logistics experience preferred
·  Bachelor’s Degree required (3-5 years relevant experience and/or 1-3 years internal experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
·  12 months progressive Customer Service, Logistics or Transportation experience required

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

·  Demonstrated experience in Excel, Order Fulfillment & Management, Transportation, Pricing Structure and the Credit and Returns process required
·  Demonstrated experience or relevant knowledge in the following areas:  Lean Logistics or Third Party TMS, SAP OTD experience in Order Processing and Logistics, Forecasting, Planning, Inventory Management, Warehousing Management preferred
·  Understanding of DOT rules and regulations
·  Ability to develop work instructions, training material and presentations
·  Must be able to work well in a self-managed team environment. This includes cooperatively scheduling work, vacation, hours and team task assignments
·  Ability to apply a logical, creative and comprehensive approach to problem solving
·  Capacity to comfortably interact with all levels of the business and customers to deliver results in a fast-paced environment
·  Judgment to resolve issues with the appropriate sense of urgency including after standard business hours support
·  Ability to maintain productivity and professionalism while under pressure to meet strict deadlines and balance multiple priorities; Displays attention to detail for both accuracy and content
·  Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to analyze issues, develop corrective actions or continuous improvement process, align stakeholders to implement the change and communicate the outcome
·  Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
