Nutricia Research Centre for Specialised Nutrition is a state of the art Life Science innovation centre for the development of new product concepts for Early life Nutrition and Medical Nutrition. We create formulas that provide clinically substantiated health benefits to vulnerable consumers – infants, toddlers, elderly and patients.
Our products are marketed under the brand names Nutricia, Milupa, SHS, Dumex and Blédina, amongst others. Capitalising on our numerous international preclinical and clinical collaborations, we aim to identify new nutritional intervention opportunities and develop innovative product forms. Nutricia Research, part of Danone group, is located in the Utrecht Science Park in the Netherlands.
For Nutricia Research we are offering an opportunity for students currently following a Master study to follow an Internship program from October for a period of 6 months.

Your mission
Metabolite characterization of fermented milk formula
During fermentation, many metabolites are produced by lactic acid bacteria. The aim of this project is to investigate metabolite production during fermentation. Fermentation profiling during co-cultivation of lactic acid bacteria (e.g. enzymes) and physicochemical variations (e.g. acidification, dry matter) during fermentation will also be studied.
Your main tasks will be:
-Scientific literature search
;-Setting up fermentation trials and performing experiments in lab scale; experience with bio-reactors is appreciated.
-Interpreting fermentation kinetics and draw conclusions from them.
Your profile
- Master’s degree in Life Sciences (biotechnology or process engineer) or similar. Microbiology masters’ students with experience in fermentation are also welcomed to apply (registered students only)
;- Experienced with Fermentation
;- Knowledge on Kinetics, experienced with research and knowledge on fermenters/bio-reactors and batch cultures
;- Fast learner, independent in literature search and in the execution of experiments
;- Curious and able to easily connect to people. Hands-on experience is a pre
;- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fluent in English.
