This position based in Palaiseau (91) near Paris and may require up to 20% of traveling.

Context:

Under the responsibility of the Chief Food Safety Officer (CFSO), the Department Food Safety at Danone (FS@D) has the mission to ensure that Danone creates, manufactures and delivers its products everyday with no compromise on food safety by strictly following the Danone compliance policy and anticipating emerging risks. The scope covered by the FS@D includes all businesses, partners, co-manufacturers and third parties.

The role of the FS@D Department is to:

• Provide Food Safety scientific expertise

• Monitor, identify, assess and characterize all relevant existing and emerging Food Safety Risks

• Screen new scientific evolutions and Food Safety Regulations

• Identify and propose Food Safety Risk Management options

• Draw up a set of guidelines on key Food Safety topics

• Recommend and validate reference analytical tools + methods

• Interpret results and recommend corrective actions

• Define Food Safety Management Systems & Audits to enforce risk management

Reporting to the Food Safety Leader Ingredients & Packaging, the Food Safety & Toxicology Scientist Manager will have the following missions:

1. Conduct and review toxicological risk assessment on chemical substances from various origins (e.g. from raw and packaging materials, intentionally added ingredients) for the whole Danone products portfolio:

• in support of new products developments (safety by design),

• in urgencies situations (i.e., crises/incidents)

2. As part of company’s Horizon Scanning activity, lead the tracking of:

• emerging science on new toxicological and food safety risks,

• new toxicological risk assessment methodologies,

• evolutions in food safety regulations and,

• new food safety issues relevant to the Danone product portfolio

3. Investigate and implement new risk assessment methodologies in the context of business support

4. Drive and manage cross-functional projects related to the area food safety risk assessment and, deliver clear and transparent toxicological risk assessments enabling robust decision-making based on updated scientific data

5. Being able to identify and engage when required with scientific experts, external scientific organizations and trade associations in order to support Danone’s food safety strategic objectives

6. Develop and drive risk communication in the context of food safety risk management activities and continuous improvement of Danone Quality and Food Safety Management System

Your profile

• Strong scientific skills with relevant education in toxicology, food safety, biology, physiology, (bio)chemistry, pharmacology or nutritional sciences (minimum MSc, PhD is a plus)

• Board certification in Toxicology (is a plus),

• Knowledge or hands on chemical toxicological risk assessment applied in the industry context (i.e.,5 years of experience)

• High level of competence in reviewing, interpreting, summarizing and communicating on scientific literature

• Practical knowledge on new risk assessment methodologies in relation to computational and in vitro toxicological testing

• Knowledge on food safety regulations and strong competencies in project management

• Autonomy: ability to prioritize deliverables and apply procedures and practices with excellence

• Strong communication skills, open to communicate and build network internally and externally

• Ability to convince, to work with multidisciplinary teams and adapt to different ways of working/cultures

• Good proficiency in English (spoken, written)
