Job description

Position Description:

A Waters Empower LAC/E Box support engineer specializes in providing technical support and maintenance for the Waters Empower software and its associated LAC/E (Laboratory Acquisition Control Environment) Box, a critical component in laboratory data acquisition systems.

THIS IS AN ONSITE ROLE AT THE CLIENT SITE IN WEST POINT, PA.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• System Installation and Configuration: Set up Waters Empower software and LAC/E boxes
• Configure connections between instruments (e.g., HPLC or GC systems) and the LAC/E Box
• Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve software, hardware, and network
connectivity issues related to Empower and LAC/E Box
• Address chromatographic data acquisition and processing problems
• Collaborate with vendors or IT teams for escalations when necessary.
• Maintenance and Updates: Perform routine system health checks on LAC/E Boxes and
associated software.
• Apply software patches and firmware updates
• Ensure system compliance with regulatory and client standards. Data Integrity and
Compliance
• Support adherence to industry standards like 21 CFR Part 11 (electronic records/electronic
signatures compliance).
• Ensure data integrity and audit readiness for laboratory systems
• Training and Documentation: Provide user training for Empower software and LAC/E Box
operation. Create and maintain system documentation, including SOPs, user guides, and
troubleshooting manuals.
• Integration and Optimization: Assist in integrating LAC/E Boxes with laboratory networks or
enterprise systems like LIMS/ELN
• Optimize workflows to improve lab efficiency and system performance

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Key Skills and Knowledge Areas:

• Empower Software Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Empower 3 or later versions
• Chromatography Understanding: Familiarity with HPLC, GC, and related techniques
• IT Skills: Networking, Windows OS (typically the platform for Empower), and database
management.
• Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and other relevant regulations
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues

1. Educational Background

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as: Computer Science Information Technology
Chemistry or Biochemistry Engineering (Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering) Life
Sciences or a related discipline
• Advanced degrees or certifications are often advantageous but not mandatory

2. Technical Skills

• Empower Software Expertise: Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Waters
Empower Chromatography Data System (CDS).
• Familiarity with Empower custom fields, report creation, and processing methods
• Hardware Knowledge: Experience with the setup, operation, and maintenance of LAC/E
Boxes
• Understanding of chromatographic instrument connectivity (e.g., HPLC, GC, and MS
systems)
• IT and Networking: Knowledge of Windows Server and client operating systems
Networking basics (e.g., TCP/IP, firewalls, and system integration).
• Experience with databases (e.g., Oracle or SQL Server)
• Instrumentation and Automation: Familiarity with laboratory instruments and their n
integration into Empower.
• Experience with troubleshooting instrument-specific issues.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11 compliance and GxP guidelines.
• Understanding of data integrity and validation in regulated environments

3. Experience

• Industry Experience: Minimum 2–5 years of experience in laboratory IT support,
instrument validation, or chromatography systems.

• Hands-on experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated environments.

• Customer Support: Proven track record of providing technical support to end-user

• Experience in troubleshooting hardware and software issues remotely and on-site.

4. Certifications

Relevant certifications are a strong plus, such as:
• Waters Empower Certification (if available through Waters Corporation)
• IT certifications like CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified:
• Azure Fundamentals, or ITIL.
• Instrument vendor-specific certifications (e.g., Agilent, Thermo Fisher)

5. Soft Skills

• Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for both hardware and software
• Communication Skills: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users.
• Skilled in documenting issues, creating SOPs, and writing reports
• Teamwork and Collaboration: Experience working with cross-functional teams, including IT,
QA, and laboratory personnel.
• Adaptability: Capability to manage and prioritize tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced
environment.

6. Preferred Additional Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with other chromatography data systems or laboratory IT solutions.
• Exposure to laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or electronic lab notebooks (ELN).
• Knowledge of scripting or automation tools to improve workflows (e.g., Python, VBA, or PowerShell).

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $53,100.00 - $130,600.00.
