Data Protection Officer (DPO) / Legal Counsel

We are looking for a Data Protection Officer who will also take on the role of Legal Counsel, managing data compliance but also supporting the business in commercial contract reviews and negotiations. In this role, the successful candidate will ensure our organization remains compliant with GDPR and other relevant data protection laws, while also ensuring that the organization’s internal processes and contractual practices are complied with at all times.

Your key responsibilities will include

• Overseeing the organization's data protection strategy and compliance, ensuring adherence to GDPR and other privacy laws within the designated territory (Finland, Poland and Baltic countries).
• Conducting privacy impact assessments, managing data breaches, and ensuring continuous improvement of privacy practices.
• Providing expert legal advice on issues related to data protection.
• Advising and educating designated Business Units on compliance with relevant data protection laws and internal legal and privacy practices.
• As Legal Counsel, handling the drafting, reviewing and negotiating of commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with organization’s legal practices.
• Contributing to the legal team’s various daily tasks by providing legal advice and being hands-on where needed.
The position is located in Helsinki, but we operate in a flexible hybrid model.

What we expect from you

• Legal degree with relevant experience in a legal role that includes contract negotiation and compliance management.
• Proven expertise in data protection law and a solid understanding of GDPR and related legislation (in minimum knowledge of related Finnish legislation is required).
• Legal and technical expertise on data protection including data privacy risk and impact assessment.
• Certifications in privacy law, such as GDPR Practitioner or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP).
• Service and business-oriented mindset and experience in global or international organizations.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Fluency in Finnish and English with excellent written and verbal proficiency skills; additional language proficiency is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle complex legal and regulatory issues.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
