Position Description:

CGI is currently seeking multiple Systems Engineers to join our growing team in Canberra. These roles sit within our Space, Defence & Intelligence (SDI) unit and supports the design, integration, and sustainment of complex mission systems, including secure communications, tactical data links, and battlespace awareness capabilities.

CGI is a global leader in mission-critical systems across Defence and national security domains. We have supported a range of high-profile programmes including secure communications and satellite systems (such as Skynet), as well as tactical communications and modernisation initiatives including Bowman and Morpheus. Our expertise also extends to land domain targeting and fires systems, where we contribute to software, integration, and assurance activities that enable indirect fire coordination and real-time battlespace awareness.

Our work spans tactical data links, secure information exchange, and integrated command and control environments, supporting information flow across complex, multi-domain operations. We also play a key role in enabling interoperability across joint and coalition environments, ensuring Defence systems can operate effectively within allied frameworks.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

As a Systems Engineer, you will support the delivery and sustainment of complex Defence systems within a structured engineering environment. This role requires a strong systems mindset, with the ability to operate across governance, planning, and technical assurance activities in a secure and highly regulated setting.

Key responsibilities include:

- Supporting the development and maintenance of engineering management plans and lifecycle artefacts
- Contributing to systems engineering activities across sustainment and capability delivery
- Participating in engineering governance forums, including change boards and safety working groups
- Reviewing technical deliverables to ensure they meet safety, regulatory, and performance requirements
- Supporting configuration management and maintaining system baselines and technical data
- Assisting with system safety activities and risk management processes
- Investigating and resolving system issues impacting performance, reliability, and availability
- Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to support system integration and delivery

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

- Degree-qualified engineer in Systems, Electrical, Electronics, ICT, or a related discipline (recognised by Engineers Australia or equivalent)
- Experience in systems engineering within Defence or a similarly regulated environment
- Exposure to sustainment and/or in-service support of complex systems
- Experience working across the system lifecycle, including requirements, design, integration, and verification
- Familiarity with engineering governance, configuration management, and assurance processes
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams in secure environments
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Active security clearance, or the ability to obtain one
