Software Development Engineer in Test (Python)

Position Description:

CGI is seeking an experienced SDET to join our team in support of a leading banking client. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain automated testing solutions to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of enterprise applications. Working closely with software developers, business analysts, and project teams, you will develop Python-based automation frameworks, perform API and backend testing, and contribute to continuous quality improvement throughout the software development lifecycle. This opportunity is ideal for a professional with strong hands-on Python coding skills, experience in test automation, and a passion for delivering high-quality software.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity based in Bedford, Nova Scotia, requiring four days per week onsite.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated test solutions using Python.
• Build reusable Python automation scripts, libraries, and test frameworks to support functional, integration, regression, and API testing.
• Develop and execute automated API tests to validate backend services and application integrations.
• Write and execute SQL queries to validate data accuracy, integrity, and application functionality.
• Perform testing and troubleshooting within Linux-based environments.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project teams to understand requirements and define test strategies.
• Identify, document, troubleshoot, and track defects while working closely with development teams to resolve issues.
• Participate in test planning, execution, release validation, and production readiness activities.
• Improve automation coverage, testing efficiency, and overall software quality through continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in Software Quality Assurance, Test Automation, or SDET roles.
• Strong hands-on Python programming experience, including writing, debugging, and maintaining automation code.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining automated testing frameworks using Python.
• Experience performing API testing, including RESTful API validation and automation.
• Strong SQL skills, including writing queries, validating data, and troubleshooting database-related issues.
• Hands-on experience working within Linux environments, including troubleshooting and command-line operations.
• Working knowledge of Java and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Experience designing and executing functional, integration, regression, and automated tests.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Assets
The following qualifications would be considered assets:
• Experience with Robot Framework for test automation.
• Experience working within Anti-Money Laundering (AML) applications or platforms.
• Experience supporting banking or financial services applications.
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Git or similar version control tools.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000–$110,000 CAD. This role is an existing vacancy.
