Release Train Engineer (RTE)
Position Description
CGI is looking for a Release Train Engineer to join the team in Raleigh, NC.
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) facilitates Train level processes and execution, escalates impediments, manages risks, and recommends Train level improvements. RTE promotes an Agile environment of continued learning ensures that SAFe / Scrum best practices are understood and adhered to so that the teams can deliver on their commitments. Coordinates and facilitates program level events that impact leaders, Product Managers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters and development teams across the entire program, through Scrum of Scrum (SoS), PI planning event & Product Management Council (PMC).

System thinker: RTEs analyze the entire software development environment. They anticipate outcomes, problems, bottlenecks, and dependencies, and then use experience to optimize delivery
Communicative: RTEs communicate well with all levels of the organization from agile team members to executives, improving transparency and sharing information
Assertive: RTEs ensure the organization adheres to SAFe principles and practices. They sometimes help to make the tough call
Deep Agile knowledge: RTEs have a good understanding of SAFe and its principles as well as knowledge of the Portfolio Kanban view. They understand the impact of scaling and use that knowledge to help mitigate the costs and inefficiencies associated with it. They are continuous learners and apply that knowledge to improve their programs
Act as an Execution lead closely partnering with the Product Manager & IT Delivery Owner to guide one agile release train
Establish program level cadence and drive program level ceremonies (e.g. PI Planning, Product Management Council, Scrum of Scrums, release train retrospectives, HIP Sprint)
Work with other program leaders to drive the definition and refinement of the program backlog
Provide leadership, direction, and coaching to scrum teams and Scrum Masters
Ensure cross-value stream coordination and collaboration
Serve as an escalation for impediment removal for the Scrum Masters and scrum teams
Maintain metrics that provide visibility to stakeholders on program-level plans, progress and quality
Facilitate alignment dependencies between the program team and third parties, release managers, or between the team and other Scrum Teams
Foster a team collaborative environment that tears down silos between groups – act in a single voice
Actively contribute to the company’s Agile and Lean Community through participation in the internal Agile Community of Practice and Scrum Master Forums
Develop, coach, and mentor team members to advance their skills and career
Provide real time feedback to the methodology team based on experiences with software delivery teams
Work cross functionally to align strategy, methodology and execution
Be a change agent and foster a “learn by doing” environment
Use CA Agile as Agile tool to establish Project work space for the program
Facilitate PI Planning Readiness and PI Planning events
Aggregate PI Objectives and publish for visibility and transparency
Assist with execution and Feature completion tracking using the Portfolio view, i.e. Kanban
Encourage collaboration between teams, Architects, Engineering, User Experience, etc.
Help track and manage risks and dependencies
Accountable for managing the financials for the release Train
Report status to Leadership/Stakeholders
Understand and operate within Budget
Provide input on resourcing to address team needs and critical bottlenecks
Drive continuous improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops
Facilitate PI Release Readiness
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Heath Care Insurance Domain Knowledge, Excellent communication skills, Agile, Scrum, Experience with SAFe – SPC4 Certification, SAFe RTE, SAFe ASM, CSP, PSM II, Knowledge of Kanban, Agile Central
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science
