We are currently expanding our team of Open Source, DevOps developers. If you have a solid Linux foundation and an enthusiasm for technology, we’d love you to join us. We write, build, and run a cutting edge Big Data platform for a meaningful and strategic client. We’re heavy on automation, great developer hardware, a mix of physical and virtual platforms and taking on steep learning curves. We’re delivering to our customer faster than they’ve experienced before. We’re motivated to improve the state of the art, for our customer, and for other engineers or consumers working on similar systems.

The team focus is a shared ownership and drive to achieve our goals. We aim that everyone is involved in Software Development (and testing!) and Operations. We all have direct contact with our customer on our daily basis – the development team can find out and ask questions first hand to understand how to build what is really needed. Each of us takes ownership of a customer story from beginning to end. If you’re interested in the full spectrum of software – prototyping, presenting demonstrations, creating sustainable systems, thinking ahead but not over-complicating for today, this will suit you.

Your future duties and responsibilities
You will be part of a team which is jointly responsible for designing, coding, building, testing, maintenance and on-going operations. You will stay up to date by following industry developments, creating prototypes and sharing this information with our customer, local CGI team and wider CGI community.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Linux experience as a deployment platform and day to day development environment – e.g., can describe package management, networking configuration, log files, environment variables

Experience of starting from scratch, and building on top of existing systems

Strong familiarity with the following core tools: git, ssh, Unix command line, browsers, Bash

Demonstrated experience in at least one of: Python, Java, JavaScript

Demonstrated experience in at least one of: RHEL, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu

Desirable skills:

Deep Linux experience – e.g., can describe SELinux, chroot, ssh tunnelling, differences between Linux distributions

Networking familiarity – e.g., can describe HTTP protocol, TCP/IP

Experience of Hadoop or distributed computation

Security Clearance: Must be UK national - Security Cleared (SC) or SC clearable or higher clearance
