Position Description:
The Department of State is seeking an experienced Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to be responsible for the development, maintenance, and compliance of the security and privacy posture of information systems critical to U.S. foreign affairs. The ISSO will work closely with system owners, administrators, and other interested parties to manage the risk posture of information systems through cybersecurity program in compliance with federal laws, policies, regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
This position is located in our Fairfax, VA office with work performed at client site in Arlington, VA.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Security Program Implementation:
• Serve as the principal advisor to the Information System Owner (ISO) on all matters related to information system security and privacy.
• Implement, maintain, and enforce security policies, procedures, and guidelines as per Department of State and federal standards (e.g., NIST, FISMA, OMB).
• Ensure all systems are certified and accredited in accordance with the Department of State's Risk Management Framework (RMF).
• Provide security and compliance expertise to the configuration management process and system development life-cycle process.
System Monitoring and Incident Response:
• Conduct regular audits, vulnerability scans, and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities potential security threats.
• Work with the appropriate teams to mitigate vulnerabilities within accepted service level agreement timeframes.
• Collaborate with the Security Operations Center (SOC) and its incident response process to address threats and vulnerabilities in real-time.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a [security clearance level required for the position, e.g., Secret/Top Secret/SCI].
• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• years of experience in information system security or a related role.
• Demonstrated expertise with federal cybersecurity standards, NIST guidance, specifically these special publications (SP): 800-30, 800-37, 800-53 and 800-137. FISMA legislation, OMB policies and Executive branch directives, and FedRAMP.
• Proficiency in conducting risk self-assessments, vulnerability management, incident response, continuous monitoring functions and using related tools, especially GRC tools and vulnerability tools.
• 3-5 Strong technical understanding of enterprise IT systems, networking, cloud environments, and security tools (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls).
• Demonstrated proficiency writing documentation for all steps of the NIST SP 800-37 Risk Manage
Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CGRC, or Security+.
• Experience working within the federal government, particularly in foreign service or diplomatic environments.

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and license and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $69,700.00 - $150,800.00.
