Job description
CONTEXT
The Business Division Project Operations is specialized in the Process licensing, in the design and supply of process furnaces and modular units for our customers' refineries and petrochemical sites.
Within this Business division is carried out the execution of the products, from design to start-up at customers.
The Engineering department is responsible for engineering studies on these projects as well as technical support for the development of new equipment sold by the company.
MISSIONS
Reporting to the Head of Engineering Management and Specialities, you will be in charge of engineering on one or more strategic projects, covering all technical disciplines within the scope of projects carried out from France: Process- Safety Design - Mechanical - Structural - Piping - Layout- Electricity-Instrumentation-Automation - Busines Engineering software administration.
As such, you will be responsible for
- Managing and coordinating the operational engineering teams that report to you on the project(s) concerned, as well as responsibility for the proper execution of engineering studies.
- Manage technical relations with engineering subcontractors.
You will support the project manager in the relationship with the customer for engineering activities.
Specifically, your activities will include:
- Participate in the preparation of execution diagrams and costings for projects in the proposal phase, in collaboration with the relevant departments (proposal, project, engineering).
- Lead engineering studies on projects and carry out associated technical coordination.
Ensure the production and quality of key technical deliverables, as well as the efficient handling of customer comments. - Report regularly to project management and engineering (main technical issues, physical progress of deliverables and activities, remaining work, milestones, budget, etc.).
- Manage technical relations with engineering subcontractors.
- Ensure the quality of studies and deliverables produced by engineering subcontractors.
- Carry out occasional short or medium-term assignments with international engineering subcontractors, according to project requirements.
- Continuous improvement of our working methods and compliance with the Axens Management System and QHSE policy.
- Ensure that feedback from projects is effectively taken into account and cascaded into business processes.
- Participate in actions to improve and structure the engineering department (standards, processes, tools, qualification of subcontractors, interfaces, etc.).
Desired profile
QUALIFICATIONS
With a university or engineering degree in mechanical, chemical/process or structural engineering, you have at least 10 years' professional experience in an engineering or design office, ideally in the Oil & Gas sector, or in a related sector such as Nuclear, Chemical or Petrochemicals, as well as solid experience in operational and cross-functional management.
KNOWLEDGE AND REQUIREMENTS
- Good technical knowledge of Piping, Layout, Structures and Process is required. Knowledge of other fields is an advantage.
- Fluent English is mandatory. Fluency in French is appreciated.
- You have a real aptitude for managing an activity with a bird's eye view, and you demonstrate organizational and planning skills.
- You are able to make proposal, take decisions and defend your choices in front of your contacts.
- Dynamic, you don't let problems throw you off balance and are able to find solutions thanks to your practical approach and excellent interpersonal skills.
- You have a real ability to motivate, give meaning and create team cohesion through shared objectives.

- This position may involve occasional and regular travel throughout the year, in particular to engineering subcontractors abroad.
