At Allianz Life, we are driven by our mission – we secure your future – and by our common goal of caring for tomorrow. We care for our employees by promoting an inclusive culture where everyone has the opportunity to grow and be rewarded for their success. We care for our customers by creating new products that help them protect their families and pursue their retirement goals. We care for our community by giving time, resources, and donations. And we care for the future by supporting sustainability, protecting the local environment, and promoting societal equity.
You will manage the policyholder tax function providing direction and oversight of individuals performing tax administration of life insurance and annuity products within Enterprise Operations. You will lead important priorities, set and achieve our performance targets, and deliver a positive experience to both policyholders and producers. You will report to the AVP Surveillance and Regulatory Compliance.
What you do:
· Lead enterprise accountability for all tax related functions involving the administration of life insurance and annuity products that are issued by Allianz Life to help ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with income tax requirements.
· Develop department plans to ensure successful operational coordination of tax team activities (on and offshore) including annual IRS Form 1099 tax reporting, federal/state income tax withholding remittances, and providing support responding to tax inquiries and requests related to the products that are issued by Allianz Life.
· Research and provide technical support to operational teams on analysis of complex tax rules involving life insurance, non-qualified annuities, Traditional/SEP IRAs, Roth IRAs, SIMPLE IRAs and qualified retirement plans, consulting with internal Legal experts.
· Participate in change projects that impact income tax compliance related to life insurance and annuity products. This includes leading implementation of new tax laws and regulations involving life insurance and annuity products (both non-qualified and qualified) and ensuring tax requirements are implemented and maintained in company projects and new product development (both process and system implementation). Ensure flexibility and change readiness of operational teams and department to achieve our goals into the future.
· Provide guidance to other operational areas on tax compliance topics (such as issues involving third-party administrators, custodians, or financial professional income tax reporting).
· With the coordination of internal Legal staff, provide support regarding internal and external tax communications with federal and state regulatory authorities, and any related tax remediations with policyholders.
· Establish and maintain a solid controls framework of product taxation administration through oversight, capability, and system ownership, monitoring of processes, and financial controls. Identify, report, and escalate risks and implement mitigation strategies. Be a business system owner for designated systems.
· Establish successful working relationship with peers, senior Operations leaders, important partners (e.g., Corporate Tax and Legal staff), and vendors to deliver a high-quality end-to-end customer experience and tax compliance aligned with the service strategy and company-wide priorities.
· Establish a customer-centric environment and demonstrate responsiveness to internal and external requests involving product related operational tax activities. Guide process improvements to deliver and maintain a high-quality end-to-end customer service experience and achieve overall customer satisfaction and tax compliance targets.
· Build the skills and develop the people needed to support the service delivery strategy at all levels. This includes a holistic people and employee engagement strategy to attract and retain talent, and leverage of a comprehensive workforce planning model.
What you bring:
· 8 or more years' experience required: Financial Services or Insurance and Annuity operations, specifically working with tax matters related to the administration of life insurance or annuity products (including both non-qualified and qualified annuities, such as Traditional/SEP IRAs, Roth IRAs, SIMPLE IRAs, and qualified plans), successful strategic leadership, business acumen, process/systems thinking, relationship and customer service skills
· Four-year degree required or equivalent insurance product tax related work experience
· You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require immigration sponsorship for visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B, L-1, TN, etc). If you are currently on CPT/OPT, you are ineligible due to the need for future immigration sponsorship.
