Job description
We are looking for a Head of Accounting based in Singapore, reporting to the Regional Head of Accounting, Asia.
Description of Role
Perform closing of financials for area of responsibility.
Manage queries and requests from internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and Manage Team
Develop strategies for own area of responsibility in alignment with company’s goals. Provide employees with guidance on overall strategic picture and how own functional area's targets are aligned to it. Define clear and challenging targets, monitor progress and address performance issues appropriately and effectively. Set Priorities.
Coach and develop employees in a continuously changing environment. Empower employees to execute tasks independently. Foster behavior of team members as desired according to AGCS standards (e.g. behavioral goals, etc.).
Drive and maintain collaboration and synergies with internal parties.
Governance and Quality Assurance
Document application of policies, procedures, and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.
Archive records to satisfy audit and statutory requirements.
Draft standards to improve quality as well as active contribution in improving and implementing global operation cycles, processes, and workflows as well as the implementation of global policies and procedures.
Reporting and Closing
Ensure that all IFRS, GAAP and Statutory closing and reporting tasks (e.g. annual report, reporting to regulatory authorities and other internal/external reporting requirements) related to own area of responsibility are accurate and timely on both global and local bases.
Provide quarterly technical data to and review and comment on the actuarial reserve provided by external actuary.
Provide financial information to and review the tax computation prepared by external tax consultant.
Take care of monthly / quarterly / annual close submission activities, including posting of both technical and non-technical accounting transactions.
Complete account reconciliations on a periodic basis. Reconcile and settle intercompany transactions within the affiliated company group.
Coordination, transfer, and reconciliation of data from interfaces of front-end systems.
Manage local relationship with 3rd parties (auditors, external consultants, other Allianz business units, tax authorities, public authorities, etc.)
Project work as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Required Education and Qualification:
Tertiary qualification (ideally Master), preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related disciplines.
Professional qualification with accounting bodies (CPA, ACCA, CA, etc.) is preferable.
Required Experience:
Prior experience in insurance accounting and regulatory reporting.
Previous managerial/leadership experience encompassing the development (ideally) of small teams within a complex global / matrix environment.
Experience of leading change in various business scenarios, including, e.g., restructuring, integration and mature growth markets.
Experience with MAS and all other regulatory reporting, audited financial statements under IFRS.
Experience on corporate income tax computation and GST quarterly returns.
Technical Skills:
Legal and Regulatory Framework: Comprehensive knowledge of local GAAP, IAS / IFRS, Regulatory, Direct and Indirect Tax requirements.
Data Quality and Reporting: Ensuring compliance of closing, reporting with internal & external requirements (capital management).
IT and office application skills to effectively analyze data and enhance efficiency of closing process.
Ability to handle complex processes (closing, reporting, finance operations) including understanding of data flows.
You should be able to integrate AI-driven insights into your work to optimize outcomes and support broader organizational goals.
General Skills:
Problem Solving: Ability to identify and initiate appropriate actions to remediate issues that can be abstract / ambiguous and follow through on their remediation.
Project Management: Ability to manage projects (milestone and task planning, managing resources, controlling, monitoring, reporting, moderating) and to develop solutions while considering complex stakeholder structures and requirements.
Analytical Thinking and Numeracy: Ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex (e.g. ambiguous, from various sources) data and processes to rapidly distill key issues and provide insight in various situations.
General Management Skills: Encompassing but not limited to leading and developing people, establishing and setting priorities, negotiation skills and conflict management.
Fluent in English. Fluency in local language is a plus.
