The Financial Lines team in Japan is responsible for underwriting key specialty products such as Directors & Officers, Professional Indemnity, and Cyber. We work closely with local brokers and clients to ensure disciplined risk selection and profitable portfolio development, contributing directly to Allianz Commercial’s presence in the Japanese market.
At the same time, we are part of a truly global underwriting network. Our team collaborates with regional and global colleagues on pricing, portfolio steering, accumulation, and product development, gaining exposure to international best practices and emerging global trends. This unique combination of local market expertise and global collaboration creates an environment where underwriters can deepen technical skills while contributing to innovation and long‑term strategy across markets.
The Impact You Will Have:
Reporting to the Underwriting Division Manager and General Manager of Financial Lines in Japan.
Some of Your Specific Responsibilities could include:
- Underwriting Assistance
- Working closely with Underwriters to become familiar with core underwriting tasks
- Double-checking quote letters and rating details
- Supporting the creation of worksheets to help analyze and understand each risk
- Preparing application forms and invoices, and sending them to brokers
- Managing renewal lists and updating Salesforce entries
- Policy Documentation and Administration
- Ensuring accurate policy documentation is issued to brokers or confirming issuance when it is broker‑handled
- Maintaining electronic or physical files for each risk and transaction
- Proactively supporting the completion of policy administration tasks
What You’ll Bring To The Role
- Recently completed university degree.
- Degree path focus, mindset and/or aptitude for insurance.
- Prior experience gained through internships, academic projects or related work experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, peers, managers and customers.
- Strong problem resolution and analytical skills as well as the ability to grasp and solve complex issues and present solutions to others effectively.
- Excellent computer skills including MS/Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to utilize AI tools to support day-to-day tasks, improve efficiency and contribute to data-driven decision making.
- Language capability: Business-level proficiency in either English or Japanese, and conversational level or higher in both languages. (Interview will be conducted in both languages.)
