Job description
JOB PURPOSE/ROLE
The Global Data & Analytics team is the Big Data center of competence for the entire group, responsible for shaping the Big Data strategy, data-driven initiatives, and use cases of Allianz. The unit brings together both the necessary skills and the technological infrastructure to develop end-to-end data science and predictive analytics solutions for Allianz customers and operational entities around the world.
Within GD&A, data scientists contribute to and shape different use cases for data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence; from translating business problems into analytical ones, to designing and implementing the entire data science pipeline, including data engineering, exploration, training and validating ML and AI models, and prototyping direct and indirect action and interactive insights.
Data scientists work as part of cross-functional project teams in an agile, collaborative, and iterative manner. These projects aim to connect analytics to action to make a meaningful impact on business. Both quantitative reasoning and implementation skills are therefore highly important, as data scientists work at the intersection of software engineering and quantitative research, including statistics, advanced machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conceive and design end-to-end data-driven analytics solutions to support Allianz operational entities and initiatives.
Develop and implement software prototypes, including data engineering, machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, or custom algorithm development.
Create predictive and prescriptive models with machine learning and evaluate results rigorously.
Perform ad-hoc and statistical data-driven analysis on large amounts of data.
Present result of analyses to business owners and share knowledge with team members.
Support the simplification of processes so that business owners, in addition to data scientists, can leverage Big Data to drive business decisions.
Investigate new data technologies and contribute to the continual development of the Big Data architecture.
Further responsibilities
Contribute to the development of Allianz intellectual property in the areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Contribute to the development of business relationships with Allianz entities and third parties.
Contribute to the academic relations of Allianz with leading institutions in the areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and big data.
Share knowledge and experience within the team and across the Group.
KEY REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field such as computer science, applied mathematics and statistics, physics, or engineering, or equivalent work experience.
Expert knowledge in prototyping languages such as Python, MATLAB, or R.
Fluency in English is required, additional languages are a plus.
Skills and Competencies
Experience in manipulating and understanding complex, high-volume data from diverse sources.
Experience in applying modern machine learning and artificial intelligence models (supervised and unsupervised), such as gradient boosting and deep learning.
Ability to relate business problems to data-driven solutions using machine learning and artificial intelligence, and to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear and precise manner to audiences from different departments and at different levels.
Desired requirements /skills /experience
Experience with distributed computing (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, H2O etc.).
Familiarity with Scala or Java.
Fluency in additional languages.
