Working as part of an expert multiskilled team you will be responsible for static strength analysis and justification of metallic and composite structures. Your primary role will be to work closely with design and fatigue and damage tolerance engineers to assess and validate repairs to damaged aircraft structures (specifically wing structure) within challenging timeframes. Additional tasks may include guiding and supporting other team members or sub-contract suppliers providing structural analysis work. You will ensure adherence to airworthiness regulations, relevant design principles, processes, methods and manufacturing capabilities guidelines.
About us
We are a dynamic and reactive team providing structural repairs and repair processes to support the Airbus fleet. Our goal is to provide bespoke and optimum repair solutions in response to damage reports, ensuring operator schedules are maintained and aircraft downtime is kept to a minimum. We enjoy the challenge of creating and delivering repairs for any sort of damage, anywhere on the wing!
What you will be doing
· Performing structural static strength analysis and compiling justification reports for repair designs using Airbus approved methods and tools, working closely with skilled designers to develop optimum repairs.
· Creating, compiling and coordinating static strength justification reports and associated engineering documentation to deliver the required technical data for repairs.
· Work in conjunction with the Repair Design and F&DT Engineers to develop optimum repairs.
· Be a member of the Customer Care Centre - working with the transnational customer facing teams to liaise with the Operators and Maintenance Organisations to provide practical and timely support.
About You
· You are a skilled aerospace structural analysis engineer.
· You enjoy working as part of a team to develop effective solutions to complex technical problems.
· You organise and monitor multiple tasks of varying priority so that work progresses on time, cost and quality to meet customer expectations.
· You collaborate well in a team, and are able to work with other teams and individuals inside and outside Airbus (e.g. external subcontractors) to ensure efficient delivery of tasks.
Essential Skills
· Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent) and relevant engineering experience.
· Static stress engineering background, Aircraft preferred
· Experience of static analysis of aircraft structures using a range of hand and computer methods.
· An understanding of the fundamental methods of static stress analysis and an ability to develop these methods.
· An understanding of the static strength behaviours (loading, failure modes, etc) of the aircraft structures
· Knowledge and experience on both metallic and composite structures
· Understanding of the airworthiness regulations
· An understanding and ability to decide, with a good rationale, on how the repair design affects the static strength of the aircraft structure
· An ability to choose and apply appropriate analysis methods to the repair design
· Ability to liaise/negotiate with Design, Customer Services and suppliers.
· Ability to demonstrate excellent computer skills.
· Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
· Ability to translate customer requirements into operational deliverables.
· Capability to work under pressure and ensure the delivery is technically correct, on time and on quality within the tight time constraints
· Be pragmatic, able to solve the problem and ability to make decisions based on a good engineering rationale
Preferred Skills
· Be conversant with technical requirements for repair design.
· Working knowledge of the Wing Structures of the Airbus fleet.
· Already holds or previously held static strength approval delegated signature
· Knowledge of the application of Finite Element analysis.
· Demonstrated problem solving ability.
· Understand the relevant Airbus design principles, processes, methods and manufacturing capabilities
· Good knowledge and experience on both metallic and composite Airbus Wing structure
· Has a good proven track record of capability and ability to mentor and train the less experienced static stress engineers
