The Missions Engineering and Customisation department of Space Systems in Stevenage, UK is looking for an intern 2018 to progress department spacecraft system engineering improvements serving Earth Observation and Science projects in the proposal development phases. Current project examples include ExoMARS Rover (a Mars Rover), Solar Orbiter (heliocentric multi-instrument science), Biomass (P-band earth orbiting radar), Plato (space-based observatory for exoplanet discovery), and FLEX (earth orbiting spectrometer).

Tasks & accountabilities

During this internship, the activities you will may undertake may will include;

·  discovering and mapping current department and project line needs against existing and foreseen capabilities
·  preparing and if possible executing a pilot of new ways of working, ideally using real project use cases
·  formulating deployment of AstroBus product line portfolio information to those who need it in a robust and agile manner
·  supporting deployment of refreshed system engineering processes and references across the business
·  directly supporting on-going project activities on an as required basis

Required skills

Please note our Internships are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

·  Currently studying towards a degree in Spacecraft Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, System Engineering, or related subjects, including Physics.
·  spacecraft and mission engineering knowledge and understanding to undergraduate level
·  general engineering / physics / maths knowledge and understanding to undergraduate level
·  evidence of effective teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and pro-active self-starter skills
·  a range of engineering and Office software applications experience including web/Wikki/coding
·  an awareness and understanding of System Engineering as a discipline, its aims and means

o experience / awareness of system modelling and engineering languages and applications e.g. SysML, Cameo, ModelCenter, DOORS, in the theme of “Model-Based System Engineering”, is a distinct advantage
