Job Description

What if YOU start your journey with US!

As part of a school curriculum in initial training , you are looking for a mandatory internship or integrated into a gap year , that will allow you to validate your studies. The internship duration is 4 to 6 months maximum.

We offer you to work in a world-leading company which is at the heart of a digital transformation, at the cutting edge of research and innovation.

We are looking for an Internship - Satellite Communication 5G system standardisation (m/f) who will be joining us at Airbus site in Toulouse Area (Toulouse Palays).

This internship is to be filled from 03 February 2020 (keep in mind that hiring process takes about 4 months, from the validation of Job Requisition) (the dates are subject to a certain flexibility)

You will be joining the department « Chief Engineering & Architecture » which activities include assessment and design of the next generation telecommunication satellites for different applications with a special interest on the integration of Satellite systems into future 5G networks.

The objective of the internship is:

The satellite industry is clearly committed to revisit and reinvent the role of satellite communications in the context of next generation 5G networks. The telecom community is witnessing, during the last few years, the concept of network of networks for the future 5G connectivity. Satellite systems, as key part of this system, with the key added value of coverage need to meet some “5G requirements” and contribute to the definition of on-going standardisation activities.

First versions of the New Radio (NR) specification, as well as the system architecture have been specified by 3GPPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) in releases 15 and 16. Satellite systems have already been considered in various 3GPP WGs, with the identification of various use cases in SA1, the selection of reference use cases, the architecture assumptions and the study of satellite integration in 5G system in SA2, the study of NR applied to non-terrestrial network in RAN, the consideration of satellite constraints for the design of core network protocols in CT4, SA2 etc. The satellite actors are already involved in these specifications and are defining the appropriate action plan for satellite in standardisation.

As a key player of the telecommunication satellite industry, Airbus Defence and Space is seeking an internship to reinforce the analysis of technical impact of the selected use cases in the 5G standardisation in one hand and in airbus products in the other hand. The technical requirements will be derived from the use cases and architecture assumptions, key issues and solutions. The relation between current projects and different standardisation working group and relevant study items and work items will be performed.

The internship will take place within the Telecom End-to Studies department in the Telecommunication Satellite business unit. This department is involved in assessing and designing the next generation telecommunication satellites for different applications with a special interest on the integration of Satellite systems into future 5G networks.

You will be working under the supervision of your manager who will help you identify your professional objectives and support you in the development of your skills.

Your main activities will include:

- The first objective of the internship is to get familiar to the process of standardisation in key organisms (3GPP, ETSI), and understand the process behind key words and expression such as study item, work item, contribution, revision, support, technical report (TR), technical specification (TS). …

- The second objective is to correlate the use cases of satellite and 5G integration with the on-going work in SDOs. Access to different specifications and SDOs task prioritisation will be provided in order facilitate the analysis.

Finally, the candidate should elaborate a clear mapping of R&D and standards and support contribution by various teams when necessary to all WGs.

As a result, the candidate will have to prepare a synthesis of results to present internally the main outcomes of the standardisation, the link with the VHTS roadmap for an alleviated integration into future 5G network.

·  Required skills :

You are preparing a diploma level Bac+5 or Bac+4 in telecommunication / computer science or equivalent and you obtain following competence s:

- Computer Science, Virtualization

·  Soft skills:

- Rigorous, curious and autonomous

- Able to integrate into team and be a flexible team player

- Have organizational skills

·  You will develop the following skills:

As part of the team working on the R&D for satellite system evolution, you will be involved in challenging architecture and system design of complex systems.

You will take part to the specification of future satellite systems with disruptive technologies and you will develop a flexible profile that will allow you to evolve to various domains or to be specialized in SatCom.

Depending on the specifics of the offer, you may have to travel to other locations.

If your profile catches our attention, you will be invited to perform a video interview during which you will have a few minutes to tell us about your background, motivations and your professional project. Afterwards, your application could be proposed to the managers for further review.
