Description of the job

A vacancy for an On Board Software Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Stevenage.

The Central Engineering technical unit for Data Processing & On-Board Software comprise departments in UK, France and Germany. The function of the technical unit is to provide a central competence that supports the evolving needs of the business, working on satellite platforms, payloads and equipment.

The Department is involved in the complete lifecycle of activities relating to On-Board Software development. These range from requirements capture, support to System Software engineering, design, implementation, verification and validation, and maintenance.

·  You will perform embedded software engineering activities as part of a Software development team
·  You will be taking responsibility of Software development activities within Embedded Software development lifecycle (specific role/activity will depend on phase of project and experience).
·  You will manage your own time and agreed budgets in accordance with project and department requirements in order to secure an on-quality, on cost, and on-time delivery of the On-board software to the Project Programme.

The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Specification of software requirements.
·  Excellent ability to understand Customer requirements and translate these into specific software requirements.
·  Definition of the on-board software architecture.
·  Detailed software designs and realisation.
·  Software unit testing. Integration and validation testing.
·  Preparation of documentation required for the development and at key reviews (e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR, QR); and participation/leading as appropriate in those reviews.
·  Supporting the synthesis of relevant software budgets.
·  Support Software Project Manager on scheduling.
·  Post-delivery project maintenance.
·  Participate in on-going implementation of trans-national harmonisation of software tools, methods & processes, or improvement actions.

This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Desired profile

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  Real-time Embedded Engineering or relevant degree thesis with experience in the Satellite/Space or Avionics industry.
·  Previous experience in an On-Board Software engineering domain (or closely affiliated critical software domain).
·  Proven experience of Software Verification and Validation.
·  Experience and excellent understanding of Embedded Real-time systems/software engineering and Software Engineering Lifecycle Process.
·  SW development tools/environment: Eclipse; Cygwin; Clearcase; Clearquest; Reqtify; DOORS; Vectorcast; Doxygen; Logiscope.
·  Practical experience of the embedded Operating Systems (RTOS).
·  Practical experience of using UNIX, Linux operating systems.
·  Proven experience in developing software using ANSI-C and Java.
·  Practical experience of script languages (Shell, Perl, Tcl, bash etc).
·  Use of requirements capture tools (e.g. DOORS).
·  Excellent ability to understand Customer requirements and translate these into specific software requirements.
·  ECSS software engineering standards.
·  HW-SW: lo-level interfaces; drivers; embedded software development.
·  Team leadership skills would be appreciated.
·  Fluent level in English.
